My Netgear WGM24 router died so I'm running everything through my Vonage RTP300-VD which is connected to a Motorola modem. When I try to open the settings page I receive either a Goggle search page for http://192.168.15.1 or " Can't Be Found" error using IE 7. Never had this problem with any of my other routers or access points. I want to change my DNS to Open DNS via the router rather on each computer.

Try it in Firefox. IE7 can be a bit buggy with some router interfaces. Also, what IP do you have on your PC currently? What is the default GW?

Looks like the local IP of the RTP300 was changed to 192.168.16.1. Try using that.

Just like downtown, worked perfectly. That has, for the most part, always been my IP, it's a Comcast thing. Gave me some headaches when setting up TiVo also.

You must have the RTP300 NAT'd behind another router which uses the 192.168.15.0 network. The RTP300 will autosense this and change it's local network to 192.168.16.0

That is why I asked you to check the IP and Default GW. If the IP your trying to connect to is not on your local subnet, it will forward to the internet as any router would because that's how subnets work.

So by going to 192.168.15.1 while your IP is 192.168.16.2, your request went to the internet and that's why you got that Google search page.

On a small home network, always check your Default GW IP and you then be sure of your routers IP address.

Interesting. The IP addresses given for other routers I've used always worked. Right now the only router I'm using is the Vonage.

Is your cable modem also a router? If so, it might have a LAN address of 192.168.15.1

If not, then you had to have changed the LAN IP manually to 192.168.16.1 at some point in time. The only way it would do this without user intervention is if the RTP300's WAN port gets assigned an IP of 192.168.15.x

In any case, glad you able to get in now.

The modem is just a modem. Best I can tell I have a static IP from Comcast, I'm paying for upgraded service.

Received this error when I logged in;

You must be referring to the Modem's firmware. That is something I could not help you with since that would be something between Motorola and Comcast.

Since your modem is just a modem, at some point in the past, you must have called Vonage and someone asked you to change the LAN IP on the RTP300 to 192.168.16.1.
