Post subject: cannot forward ports or setup up static ip
I currently have the following setup:
suddenlink cable modem #U10C018 ->
Vonage
VDV21-VD -> Lynksys WRT54GS ver.6 -> PC
I am unable to forward any ports and when I try to set my IP to static I lose internet and
Voip
. I know I'm doing something wrong...possibly the order in which I have things set up? I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

OK - why are you trying to set up a static? Do you own a statip IP from your provider? If you are trying to set a static on you router it will not effect your ATA so since your ata goes down it has to be that you are attempting to set a static WAN on the ATA. You can only do that if you bought a static from your ISP. They will give you the info you need for that.
I am not certain you can access the advance features of the VDV21 - been a while since i had to manually set one so it isn't fresh in my head.
Let us now more details and maybe we can get you thru it.

Here is the way I would set it up (assuming your
Vonage
VDV21-VD is still set to 192.168.15.1):
Vonage
VDV21-VD
- set up the LAN DHCP to start at 192.168.15.3
Lynksys WRT54GS ver.6
- Set a Static IP on the WAN side of this router to 192.168.15.2, and set the DNS and Host to 192.168.15.1 Also, reserve the static port on the Lynksys WRT54GS ver.6 network LAN side by starting the LAN DHCP assignments 1 higher than that port (similar to what you did on the
Vonage
VDV21-VD)
Port forward the port you want on the VDV21-VD to 192.168.15.2 then port forward the port you want on the Lynksys WRT54GS ver.6 to the static port on that network.
Hope this helps
