My current setup is as follows:
Motorola Cable modem connected to a D-Link dgl4300 gaming router. The vonage router device, (its a D-Link router too), is plugged into one of the ethernet ports in the dgl4300 unit.
We have lots of devices on the network, including 3 PC's, 3 laptops, xbox 360, Wii, and several small devices.
Everything works fine. I can make calls using the vonage device. I can use the internet fine. Everything works fine.
The problem: I cannot log into the vonage device. I have tried using the 192.168.15.1 IP address along with the DHCP address my router appears to have given the vonage device. It just times out and fails to connect to the vonage settings screen.
I reallly want to disable the wireless on the vonage device since I already have it covered using my existing router. I don't want to provide any passer-by an open wireless network connection, so I want control of it to shut it off. So hopefully one of you will have some ideas for me to try. Thank you. |

In order to log into the Vonage device at IP 192.168.15.1, you must have a PC connected to a LAN port on the Vonage router and your PC must obtain an IP of 192.168.15.x.
If your trying to reach 192.168.15.1 from a PC that is connecting to your D-Link DGL-4300, you can't because your on a different subnet. |

Can you access the vonage device through its LAN port and disable its DHCP then subsequently log in to it through its WAN port it from network computers if they are put on the 192.168.15.x subnet? |

Yes. You can access it via it's WAN port after you have logged into it via the LAN port and enabled Remote Administration.
Assuming your connecting the WAN port of the VDV21 to a free Ethernet port on your own router, you would be logging into the VDV21's WAN port on it's assigned address that you either statically assigned it or that your router has issued via DHCP. And at this point, nothing would be connected to the LAN port of the VDV21. All PC's are connected to your router. |

Well, I tried that but it didn't seem to work out. I enabled remote admin on the V-Portal and changed my house lan to 192.168.15.x.
Can the V-Portal have a wan and lan address in the same subnet? eg wan 192.168.15.105, lan 192.168.15.1 |

No it can't. Is the subnet mask on your D-Link 255.255.0.0 or 255.255.255.0
If it is a B class, change it to a C Class (255.255.0.0 to 255.255.255.0) or do the following.
Change the LAN IP of the VDV21 to 10.0.0.1 since there is an issue with accessing the VDV21 from the WAN port if both networks are on the 192.168.x.x but should only be a problem if the leading router is assigned a B Class subnet.
Your router's network is 192.168.0.0 so on the WAN port of the VDV21, your router assigns it an IP address of 192.168.0.x or now 192.168.15.0 since you changed it on your router.
If all your computers are connected to your D-Link router, they will also have IP's of 192.168.0.x or 192.168.15.x if you leave it as is.
Whatever IP address your router assigns to the WAN port of the VDV21 can now be accessed by computers connected to your router by going to http://192.168.x.x:8080 (IP onthe VDV21's WAN port) |

Subnet mask on my router is class c. I tried to connect to the V-Portal wan ip address with port 8080 and now it works. I don't know I had to specify a port number!
Thanks for your help and your prompt replies. |

Port 8080 is the HTTP alternative port. It is used by default on almost all SOHO routers to access Remote Management via WAN port. The vendors do this so that you can still host a web server on port 80 and to also bypass ISP's that will sometimes restrict port 80 for home users but do not restrict access to 8080. |
