Typically on this forum, it has been advised that one should use a two wire phone cord (RJ-11) from the Vonage adapter rather than the 4 wire (RJ-14).
Looking at the Vonage troubleshooting page for echo, ( http://www.vonage.com/support.php?article=944&topic=20 ), it says:
"If your Vonage device and your phone are connected by an RJ-11 cable, replace the cable."
Does this mean Vonage recommends an RJ-14 cable?
It does not say what to replace the RJ-11 with. |

It means replace with another RJ-11 cable (verses an integrated unit such as the VTech IP8100 which doesn't use an RJ-11 cable at all). |

Thanks,
My wife periodically complains about echo (which I never hear), that she says starts a period of time after the call begins (guess she has longer conversations).
So I decided to move the Vonage device away from the SB 5101 (was right next to it) and change the cable that runs from the vonage device to the house wiring. The other thing it could be (hope not) is the cable that I installed years ago (in dial-up days) that goes to the telephone demarcation point, it is a braided cable . |

Echco is caused by timing delay (Network) Not by any cable or wire, Frayed or damage cable , may cause -Static, intermitten connections or Hang ups.
I'm not discourging you from changing the wire, I don't think it will make any difference. |
