I just got my Vonage this week. So far I love it. No audio problems or anything. My only complaint is that annoying beeping sound that beeps through the whole call when you get a call waiting call. How can I stop this? I tried doing a search but couldnt find anything so forgive me if this has been answered already. Thanks in advance.

you can't turn off call waiting for good, but if you dial a number you can turn it off before that call by dialing *70 and then the number you want to call.

I have a list of features on this forum on the main page:

There is a way that you can turn off call waiting for good. It is in your online account under features. Find Call Waiting, select your number, then click configure. Turn it off and save your settings. Presto chango, no more beeping. If I remember correctly, anyone that calls you while you are on the phone will be forwarded to your voicemail if you disable call waiting.

I forgot about that you could turn it off completely. If I get the "beep" it only happens a couple of times and goes to voice mail. Thanks for posting this answer.

No Problem. It should only beep 2 times or so and go to voicemail depending on how long voicemail is set to pick up, like you said. Unless they keep calling back, over and over again. I would like to know which is the case, whether they are calling once and it continues to beep, or they keep calling back.

Hi guys. Thanks for the replies.

I'm talking about the beeping you hear when you actually answer the other line when you on the phone with someone else. There is a beeping that happens every like 15 seconds thats so annoying.

I did a further search and found out that I have to set the "Call Waiting Tone Period" by calling up Vonage and having them set it so that annoying beeping will happen only for the first 15-20 seconds of the call. Hopefully that will work.

I did some checking and there is not currently a way to turn the beeping off. However, a new firmware is currently being worked on that will either eliminate that or give the option to turn it off, if wanted. The ETA for this is aprox. 2 - 3 months.

Not trying to create any ill feelings here, but I wonder seriously, why someone remains on a line waiting for the other party to be finished with another call.

Personally, I hate call waiting. If someone flashes out of a conversation with me, I will give them a few moments, but after 20-30 seconds, I'm hanging up.

So while I can understand why a continuing "reminder" that there is another party online would be annoying, I just don't see why the OP would end one of the conversations.

Well sometimes if Im on the phone with someone and I get a very important phone call, my friend on the other line wouldnt mind waiting for 3 or 4 minutes while I take a very important phone call. Of course if its longer I will just tell my friend i will call them back. But while im on the other line taking my important phone call i would hate to keep hearing that beeping for every 20 seconds the full 3 or 4 minutes. It's really annoying. I didnt get around to calling Vonage yet to change the "Call Waiting Tone Period" but I will in the next couple of days.

I'm a tech for Vonage. Currently there is no way to disable that beeping. This will be addressed in the next firmware upgrade in 2 - 3 months.
