Hi Guys,
This is maybe a little weird:
I need to use dialup internet from different countries, using Voip.
I've read that this is possible, but never seen any intructions. I also read that tops speeds would be like a 28.8 modem using g723, which is fine since I just need to surf a couple of websites to control some stuff.
Does anyone have any pointers or instructions on how to do this?
I'd be very thankful. |

In order to use Voip, Vonage to be specific, you need broadband type speeds. So if you have the broadband connection to run Voip, why would you need to then use dial up over the Voip?
I can only speak for Vonage but using dial up is not supported and can be difficult. Especially since the packet loss and latency from an overseas ISP to the Vonage media servers will be very high. At g711, you will only connect at 9600 to 14400 max. And the slightest bit of packet loss, latency, or jitter will prevent the transmission of packets from making it from end point to end point and in return make the conversion to analog impossible for the modems to interpret the data tone due to missing segments. |

Vonage can not be used at all if you connect to the internet with a dial-up connection. And do not let a Vonage salesperson lie to you and say it can. All they want is the sale and can care less about you when you call back irate that you can not connect and are told that it can not work with dial-up. Then you will be redirected to the cancellation dept, which is called retention because they will try and talk you into getting broadband where you live and look up your address and see who you can call to get it, and so on before they will cancel you. A lot of aggravation to avoid. |
