Our community just offered Verizon FiOS this past month. I started to have so many Comcast problems with my Vonage service that I jumped on getting FiOS. I originally signed up for the 20 Mb up/20 Mb down internet package but I changed to the 20 Mb up/5 Mb down package because it could be bundled with my TV service and it was $54 a month cheapeer. My Vonage service gets very choppy at times. I have two voice and one fax line with Vonage. I have had one of my lines with Vonage since 8/2003. I ran the Vonage-Forum Voip test last night and it failed QoS and Jitter. I ran it this morning and the results are listed below. My questions are:

A. Do I tell the tech support that I have intermittent QoS and Jitter issues with my service which degrades my Vonage service?
B. What can they do to improve the service? Can they fix the QoS and Jitter issues?

I'd appreciate any advice before I call their technical support.

Hello Milhans - I had serious issues with upstream as a result my Voange service was unusable more times then not but my scores for Latency / Jitter were way up there 100 -200 and sometimes the QoS score was pitiful - Any ways your scores look very good "wish I had them" - I am not a expert here but have spent two months trouble shooting my Vonage service and it looks like your problem is local with your setup.

This is interesting. I am assuming that you have already adjusted the bandwidth saver on your account.

I also had FIOS TV installed this month. I was a FIOS internet customer pior. There is a newer Actiontec MI-424-WR router that you may want to ask for to compare to the 4124WR. I have both but have not yet taking any time to run any tests. The MI-424-WR does have better ventilation.

How are you connected to the ONT? RG-6 or Cat5? I have separate wire runs for the TV RG-6 and internet Cat5 and have no issues on my two Vonage lines. I do not know if the wiring would give your problem. Perhaps others have some advice on this. I wish I could help.

Thanks for your feedback. I should have clariified the issue. The numbers I ran is when it is good. There have been times where the quality goes down. I ran the test when it was bad but didn't capture the data but i remember the colors were yellow for QoS and Jitter. The above capture was when it was good. When it works, the quality the Vonage quality is good. I have had times when the quality goes down.

I don't have the bandwidth saver setting on with either Vonage line.

I have a RG6 cable doint from the ONT to the Verizon FiOS router. I plug my two Vonage Dlink VTAs plugged directly two ports on the Actiontec FiOS router.

I'll just wait until I can do a Voip test when I get a period when the Vonage quality goes down and call Verizon technical help.

There is a QoS configuration screen in the Actiontec and I'll try to give priority to my Vonage traffic.
