That was it, I stumbled upon it at lunch. All I needed to do was set my router to obtain IP automatically.
The instructions for static IP setup in the quick set guide should say something to that affect.
Verizon voicewing is going out of business so I switched to Vonage. Another tip is to set verizon to simultaneously ring your new virtual number so that your old number will still work with Vonage while the transfer is still in progress. |

Good posts guys, but what about when you're using DHCP provided address from your telco? I'm having slightly different issue from the OP though. My network functions just fine, however, when we use the Vonage service, and all other network connectivity is dropped.
Here's my setup: AT&T Residential DSL Service -> DSL Modem (Speadstream 4100) -> Vonage VDV21 (using Blue port for uplink) -> Linksys SRX200 (WAN port) -> multiple home devices via wireless
Router is set to obtain DHCP address from service provider and I have a private wLan config'd to provide DHCP addresses to home network devices.
I'm hoping it's a config issue that can easily be solved. |

surfinguru,
Is your Speedstream 4100 performing the PPPoE authentication and acting as a router or is it in bridged mode?
Is the WAN interface on the VDV21 configured for PPPoE or the default DHCP?
Are you using 2.4ghz cordless phones? This is what I believe to be your problem. Since you say you lose network connectivity when using Vonage, it sounds like when the cordless phone is in use, it interferes with the 802.11G band on your wireless router. If you are using 2.4ghz phones, try to test this 2 ways.
1) Connect a corded phone to the VDV21 and make a call while browsing the internet wirelessly.
or
2) Connect PC to router via an Ethernet cable, disable it's wireless adapter. Make a phone calls using the cordless phone and browse the internet.
If you can successfully talk on phone and browse the internet using one of the above methods, your resolutions are:
1) Adjust the wireless channel in your SRX200 router to either extreme. Channel 11 or channel 1. Save settings and retest phone calls while browsing the web wirelessly.
2) Get 5.8ghz or DECT 6.0 phones. |

Hey VonTech, thanks for the very quick reply. We're using 5.8GHz phones, so that's not the issue. Not sure what the deal was, but I powered everything down, reset the router and rebuilt my network. Tested using an extended ping to yahoo, placed a call and refreshed a random internet page while the call was in process. No issues to report at this time. No packet loss during extended ping or page refresh. FWIW, I'm beginning to think the problem is with the router itself, but that's another topic altogether.
Again, thanks for the quick reply. |
