I heard many people are having problems entering the pin when trying to reach their voicemail menu on a pap2.
This is not caused by your router.

This can be resolved by logging in to the pap2 and change the dtmf tx method setting in line1/2 to auto.
When this is switched to inband the pap2 sends # to the phone and makes the menu receive the wrong ping.

The reason this hapapens is because the Vonage VM system will only accept OOB(Out of Band) DTMF signaling. (RFC2833) The difference between Inband and Out of Band is that Inbound sends the DTMF tones as audio through the RTP stream. Out of Band sends actual events which are the digits pressed as actual numbers in the RTP packets.

With Inband DTMF singaling, the slightest bit of packet loss will make your DTMF tones inaudible. Out of Band send digits which the receiving SIP UAS, in the case the Voicemail server, can interpret.

The only reason you would not be set on Out of Band(RFC 2833) which is the default on all Vonage hardware is if you called to tech Support and reported some sort of issue with DTMF relay. In the process of low level agents who do not understand the actual underlying technologies attempting to fix the current issue, they break the ability to access the Vonage Voicemail system.

Quite interisting what you mentioned.
I am using a different Europien Voip provider and noticed that the voicemail menu pin gets excepted only when using dtmf setting to auto and not when using this setting as inband.

Well first and foremost, this is a Vonage Forum so the information provided in here deals with Vonage systems and Vonage customers.

But, in your case, it would be the same. Inband doesn't work with your VM system just as it wont with ours. When you enable Auto, this is AVT which in most cases can send both Inbound and Out of Band(RFC 2833) DTMF signaling simultaneously. So since OOB is being sent, your able to access your VM.

Vonage customers do not have the ability to do this as these type of device settings which control the Voice module are looked down. It can only be changed by Vonage staff. Your provider must allow your to bring your own device and is why you have the ability to toggle it at will.
