I have the following setup:
Cable Modem connected to RTP-300
RTP-300 connected to WRT54G.
One computer hardwired to RTP300
One computer hardwired to WRT54G
One laptop connects using wireless to WRT54G.
When I turn on the computer that is hardwired to RTP300, the internet connections to WRT54G all work fine. The connections on WRT54G stop working when I turn off the computer that is hardwired to RTP300. The wireless connection on the laptop connected to router WRT54G displays connected to the router, but is not able to get on the internet.
Now when I disconnect the computer that is hardwired to RTP300 and reboot RTP300, the computer hardwired to WRT54G and
laptop both connect to WRT54G.
Why does WRT54G(internet) stop working when I turn off the a hardwired computer to RTP300? Has anyone encountered this issue? |

Sounds like some sort of IP conflict bet it is strange since the opposite should be happening. Normally in this situation, when turning the PC on, you would lose the connection at the 2nd router.
One thing comes to mind but I am just reaching out there. Did you at any point in time attempt to setup Internet Connection Sharing on the PC hanging off the RT300? I only ask if for some strange reason, the WRT54G's WAN port thought the Default GW was the IP of the PC instead of the RTP300's LAN IP.
Do an ipconfig /all on the PC connected to the RTP300. List all IP information. Then go to the WAN port configuration of the WRT54G and see if it is using static IP or DHCP? If static, List all it's IP information. If DHCP, go to the status page and list all it's IP information.
In the end, you should just assign a static IP to the PC on the RTP300 and to the WAN port on the WRT54G and make sure the 4th Octet of the IP address is different on both but everything else should be identical between the 2 of them. |
