Could something possibly be inconsistent considering that all of my phone jacks are Cat5 cable hookups? Am I going to have to rewire my DSL jack knowing that the Cat5 wiring isn't consistent with the typical telephone wiring?

If all of your phone jacks are Cat5 then they are probably all 8-pin jacks. They should have all eight pins wired (four pairs). You should have no trouble using the second pair (normally orange/white) to deliver DSL as previously described. Can you perform a continuity test? You say that you have connected the orange/white pair to the incoming loop at the NIU. Can you verify that this is connected as you intended? Are all of the jacks in your house wired individually to a central distribution point? Are they connected to each other? Can you establish that the orange/white pair from the jack where your modem is plugged in is connected to the orange/white pair from the NIU? Can you establish that the orange/white pair is actually wired to pins 3 and 6 of the 8-pin jack where the modem is? At least one of these tests will probably be negative!

Thanks for all the help thus far.

I am not at home to verify this, but I am going to guess that my Cat5 jacks are wired with the Orange/White pair on the 1/2 slots and the Green/White pair on the 3/6 slots. If this is the case, then I can simply rewire one jack by switching these two pairs around, and it should work .... correct?

I will verify this theory later tonight with an update.

If that's the case, it may be easier to connect the green/white pair, rather than the orange/white pair, to the service loop at the NIU. The idea is to have the DSL appear on L2 in your triplex adapter.

Okay, here are a few answers (and some more questions!) to your last post:

1) Continuity test - I don't have the equipment for this.
2) Verify Orange/White connected at NIU - I have no certain way to do this, but I have connected the orange multiple times with no DSL service passing through, then reconnected the blue and have DSL come back through my lines. I am doing these in the same way, so I assume I am doing this correctly.
3) Yes, all are wired to a central distribution point. However, I don't know how this central point connects to the external line that is found at the NIU.
4) Yes, they are connected to each other via separate blue/white and orange/white wires.
5) Unsure how to check this part ....
6) Orange/White IS connected to the 3/6 ports in all my jacks, so no problems there.

What exactly could be the problem? I am pretty stumped because it seems something would have popped out as an inconsistency by now ....

FYI .... I have a picture of my wiring hub that is inside my closet, but I am unsure how to include it in this post ...

Hi Dave,

After bypassing the second line through the rest of the house at the wiring hub and rewiring the blue/white incoming line to the orange/white at my DSL location, I have solved my problem. I now have isolated DSL to that single L2 jack and the phones are working on L1 throughout the rest of the house!

Thanks so much for the help! Good luck in the future!

Shane
