I am interested in switching over to Vonage as both my Business phone provider and my home provider. I run my business out of a home office and already have an existing local number and 800 number. Is it possible to transfer not only my local number but my 800 number also? All of my marketing materials, business cards, website, etc already have the existing 800 number and I don't want to change to another.
Also if this is possible and I decide to switch, will I be able to have 1 Business line, 1 Fax line and 1 Personal line all running off of 1 cable modem?
Thanks for you help,

this might help: http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic2187.html
the Vonage devices have 2 ports. I assume most people use it for a voice and fax line (if they use line 2). you might need another adaptor. on the other hand, you may keep your 800 number through the other service, so then you'd just need the one. as far as bandwidth to support them all, do you expect them all to be in use at once? either way, http://www.vonage-forum.com/voip-speed-test gives you an estimate on how many connections your line will support. |

rebeok,
Thanks for the reply. No all 3 would never really be in use together. I ran the bandwidth test and it says I can handle 3 concurrent connections through Vonage, so I am fine there. I will probable just switch over my office number and fax number first, then eventually switch over the home line.
As far a the existing 800 number. Sin ce that number already forwards to my local business number. When I transfer the local business number over to Vonage, will I need to do anything else? Do I need to coordinate anything with my current 800 number provider? I called Vonage customer support and asked, but they did not know.

shouldn't be a problem. when I moved my verizon to packet8, there were a couple days where people got a number has been disconnected or not in service message. that didn't seem to happen with my p8 to Vonage lnp. I would ask Vonage about multiple line lnp, I seem to remember reading they would only do one for some reason. |

That depends on the type of 800 service you have. Our 800 numbers were purchased from a 3rd party, rather than the telco. We have a control panel with the 800 provider that lets us go in and, among other things, change the phone number to which an 800 number is pointed. That way, if our local number ever changes, or if we want it redirected anywhere else in the country, it's a simple control panel entry.
You might want to see if you have a similar ability.
