How do I FAX from an HP J6450 All-in-One Printer/FAX that is connected to a PC (Windows Vista Ultimate OS) via infrared. I do not have a landline phone connection only Voip and broadband wireless home network.
I can't find any information on how to set up the printer/fax in the HP documentation or on line and nothing in the Vonage documentation either?
Any help for a simple soul would be appreciated. Thank you in advance! |

You need a dedicated fax line. |

Ok then. Try hooking your fax machine up to your Voip line and have someone fax you. If it works, great, if not, then there is your answer. If it does work, then you will need a splitter so that you can hook both your fax and phone up to the Voip adapter. Then you will need to KNOW when you are getting a fax so you know not to answer your phone before the fax machine answers. Should be lots of fun.
Your fax machine MUST be hooked to a phone line to receive faxes. |

Do it all the time and it works, so .....
Without knowing how much the op really will be using fax, it's really pointless to discuss the dedicated fax line.
For the record, a dedicated fax line is mostly a stripped down regular line. ie.many of the calling features are removed.
For the op. Search this forum as there's been many threads discussing faxing. So I guess first, plug it in and try. Here's a few common statements on faxing with Voip in general.
Summary - Faxing with Vonage is hit and miss. Works for some, doesn't for others. - Bandwidth setting should be set on the highest setting. - Reported success with Error correction disabled - Reported successes with transmission baud rates turned down. |

We do have the same model as yours.Based from what is the present set-up in the business security systems office where I'm connected with, we have dedicated phone line for our fax machine. We also have Voip.
