I get the following message when trying to listen to voice mail with my XP Home machine using Media Player 10...

C00D1197: Cannot play the file

I have tried all of the suggestions found using the Windows troubleshooters with no positive results.

I have another machine running the same OS and Media Player version, and that one works. I cannot seem to find the discrepency in the two configurations.

Any ideas?

Thanks

here are a couple links I found. odd that media player can't play a wave file. you can play this file in another player if you have one (i.e. winamp)

To clarify...

Media Player will play the .wav file if I download it (save) and then play it from the saved location, or any other .wav file for that matter. I only get the error if I try to "open" it from the Vonage "listen' link.

unfortunately I don't have a lot of time to look more into this tonight. my only other piece of advice is to try this just to see:

In Windows XP I have seen user profiles get corrupt (somehow) and give errors while trying to stream. Create a new account or log in as a different user and see what you get.

I know how frustrating this can be... I tried to install and uninstall wmp 10 over and over...
Couldn't find help anywhere.
every option was setup right as far as the player itself but if oyu read the microsoft page it explains that the code means there is something wrong with wmp itself. I believe this got messed when installing a codec pak or something. Anyway no guarantees, but what finally worked for me after pulling out my hair was going here and resetting the wmp. http://www.zachd.com/pss/pss.html#offline

anyway I also stumbled on a microsoft page telling you how to do it manually but this is easier... just click and run the first reg fix and voila! wmp reset and streams work for me again. I would assume that its a reg problem somewhere and that this should fix ALL stream issues if "all of a sudden" streams stop working.

GL and I hope this helps at least one person... I know looking for a solution drove me NUTS!

Another fix is to download a small free player called Winamp. This can be downloaded at http://www.winamp.com. This player will stream the voicemails automatically. Cool
