I'm a Mac User (running 10.4.11) Comcast is my internet provider. Using a WRTP54G wireless router for my Vonage (home) phone.
Everything has been fine for years until this week. Comcast modem had slow connection and Voip Router started cycling it's lights. Its gets up and running for 30 seconds or so drops the connection and cycles the lights again.
Comcast tech was here and replaced the old model modem with a new one. (new one is Arris TM502G, I don't know what the old one was) I can connect to internet with a direct ethernet to cable modem but can't get the Voip router to stop cycling. I've reset both. I read online that the firmware could be corrupt. I downloaded the update and but get a mounting failed error.
The comcast tech had mentioned something about their new software to have caller ID display on the tv (for customers who have cable tv, internet and phone thru Comcast) was blowing up the old modem model I had replaced. Does anyone know if this is effecting the Voip Vonage routers too? is there a patch?
Thank you |

These tpye of signals are passed on a different frequency then your internet operates on. Just because the internet and cable TV share the same coaxial cable, they are independent of one another.
So I do not believe what Comcast told you about the modem getting damaged from the Caller ID signal is truthful. It is also not possible for this to affect the Vonage adapter since only IP packets can be passed from the modem back to any device connected via ethernet.
You can also not just download any Linksys firmware for the Vonage router you find on the internet. Only Vonage can push firmware to your device as it is a special build made for them by the vendor. It is not the same firmware you can use for off the shelf models. It will not install and if by chance it does, you would damage the unit beyond repair.
The actual issue at hand can be firmware related but it could also be hardware related. If for any chance it took a power surge or even a spike through the RJ-11 if your connected to your home wiring and not properly disconnected at the D-Marc or something happened to short within the D-Marc, it would be come damaged. |

Can you post a link to where I can get that firmware from Vonage? I can't find it on the website. Or do I need them to push it out?
Power is thru a surge protector with battery back up. Hopefully its not that.
I meant that when the software that supported the caller id was pushed to the modems that was causing issues. (cause the id shows on your computer screen or tv too!) I figure ANY update could be an issue with comcast.
Thank you for your help!! |

You cannot download it yourself. When firmware is available for update, it is set up for your MAC address in a profile waiting for you to download. Your device will check in via TFTP with Vonage's provisioning system and automatically download a firmware update.
In order to re-flash your your firmware, you need to contact Vonage. They would have to rolll your firmware back and wait for it to be successful. Then upgrade the firmware again. |

Is the power light solid or flashing. For linksys routers , flashing power light normally indicates router gone bad. Please check power adapter voltage and current and try different outlets. Guess time for replacement. |

if you still are having problems you could try a hard reset on the device not just the the reset button. |
