My Vonage was working fine when I went on vacation and when I returned the phone would turn on and the seconds were counting, but there was no dial tone. I've checked the status and it's active. I restarted everything and the phone adapter does not have any lights on. Now when I turn on the phone the phone adapter has the green light "in use" on, and the counter begins but then the message "no signal, call ended" shortly appears. I'm in Mexico so I am unable to call the 1-866 help number. Any advice would be appreciated. |

Can you post the information that is posted in the pinned message?
Second, what you describe sounds like a phone problem. Are you using a cordless phone? Try unplugging the power from the base station for a couple minutes then power it back on. |

or connect a regular corded phone to it and check; if it works, then you have a cordless phone issue. |

I'm not sure exactly what the "pinned message" is? I have an IP8100 cordless phone that came with the phone adapter. I have tried repowering everything but my telephone just says searching... on the screen. When I press the talk button the call timer comes on for 4 or 5 second and the phone makes a weird squelching noise and the the message on the phone screen appears saying "no signal, call ended". I checked the MAC number and the account activity and the internet connection, and everything seems to be fine. I remember when I went on vacation I left the handset off the base and the phone battery was dead when I got back so I charged it and I had no dial tone at all after it charged. The call forwarding is still working to my Mexican cell phone though. |

where would i hook a corded phone to? My phone adapter that came with the package only has two ports - a yellow one and a blue one. |

Is the ready LED on the front of the IP-8100 base unit solid green or is it flashing amber?
Green means it is properly communicating with Vonage proxy servers. If amber, then it is an IP issue with the base unit not communicating with Vonage. Have to possibly power cycle everything starting with your modem, router, IP-8100.
If the LED is green, when the battery on the handset died, it may have de-registered from the base unit. You will need to attempt to re-register it.
Here's the link to the user manual if you no longer have yours.

Here's how to re-register the handset with the base unit.
To de-register handsets from the VTech IP8100 Base Unit
1. Power on base unit.
2. Press and hold PAGE button on base unit and turn on power while you have PAGE button pressed.
3. All handsets registered to this Base Unit should prompt for a Base ID.
4. The Base Unit will now not have any handsets associated with it.
Note: Base ID can be found on a sticker on the bottom of base unit.
To register handsets with the VTech IP8100 Base Unit
1. Power on base unit
2. Press and hold SEL on the handset.
3. Enter a new BASE ID once the prompt appears on the handset.
4. Press SEL to save it.
Note: New handsets will prompt for a Base ID after they charge. |

Well, almost good news to Vontechmgr. I reset the base id. The handset now works somewhat, it displays a few missed calls from today and when I press the "on" button the call timer appears and begins counting and i can punch in a number, but there is no sound at all and the counter just continues counting. When I have the "on" button on, the green light on the base unit "in use" comes on in green so i know they are working together. The only problem is that the "ready" light is not green or amber. There is no light at all. How do I get the "ready" light to come on, and how do i get a dial tone?
Thanks for the help. |

Since your Ready LED does not show anything at all, the base unit might have become defective. The only activity you display is the off hook indicating the handset is communicating with the base unit but the base unit may not be communicating with Vonage.
Here's the LED breakdown.
LED Action Condition
In Use On Handset 1 is off hook
In Use Blinking An Extension handset (any handset that isn't Handset 1) is off hook
Message Waiting Blinking Voicemail received
Ready Solid Red Internet service currently not available, no connection to the ISP. (Wait for the connection to be completed OR ensure ISP configuration is correct OR contact ISP for assistance)
Ready Blinking Red Error condition not related to ISP connection.
Ready On - Yellow Connecting to Vonage
Ready Blinking Yellow Connecting to Vonage - DO NOT UNPLUG POWER
Ready On - Green Line ready to use
Ready Blinking - Green Software upgrade in process (may make and receive calls)
WAN port - Green LED Off No WAN link/activity
WAN port - Green LED On WAN connected
WAN port - Green LED Blinking WAN activity detected
WAN port - Yellow LED Off Connection Speed - 10Mbps
WAN port - Yellow LED On Connection Speed - 100Mbps
LAN port - Green LED Off No LAN link/activity
LAN port - Green LED On LAN connected
LAN port - Green LED Blinking LAN activity detected
LAN port - Yellow LED Off Connection Speed - 10Mbps
LAN port - Yellow LED On Connection Speed - 100Mbps |

Well, I guess there is no connectivity, because I looked on the back of the base unit where the yellow LAN and blue WAN are, and neither the green nor yellow lights are lit up back there (can't see anything in the dark either). Does this mean that my base is no good anymore and I need another one? Or can I configure something or go through a process to get the WAN and LAN working again? |

What is your current network setup?
Where does the WAN port on the IP-811 base unit connect to?
What is currently plugged into the LAN port on the IP-8100?
Make sure you follow the cables from end to end to confirm what they are currently connected to. |
