I have been having issues with my D-link VWR router. I have a phone and fax line that works fine and my laptop works fine (wireless). I cannot get my desktop which is wired into the router to access the internet. I just purchased a brand new computer, but was having the same issues with the old one. If I connect my desktop directly to the cable modem (Comcast Motorola SB5120) it works great. When I run though the router - no connection.
I have even tried replacing the cable from my computer to the router, with no success.
Anyone have ideas?? |

Is your operating system on the new desktop running Windows Vista? If so see this:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233
Additional Fixes if the one from Microsoft does not work in your case:
Disable the IP Helper service:
1. Hold the Windows key and type R, enter "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter 2. Scroll down to the IP Helper service, right click on it and select Properties 3. In the dropdown box that says "Automatic" or "Manual", set it to Disabled and then click on "Apply" 4. Then click on "Stop" to stop the service from running in the current session 5. Click OK to exit the dialog
Disable IPv6:
1. Hold the Windows key and type R, enter "ncpa.cpl" (without the quotes) and press Enter 2. Right click on each network connection and select "Properties" 3. Remove the checkmark from the box next to "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) 4. Click OK to exit the dialog |

Just so everyone else who may have this problem knows, which fix did you use? Seems the Registry edit does not work for everyone.
Disabling the IP Helper does work for most but may also require registry edit. |
