So I did as my net eng friend suggested and hooked my PC straight up to the Vonage Router, so it was like this:
Cable Modem -> Vonage Router -> PC
Ran to broadband speed tests here: www.speedtest.net www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
With the above setup, downstream bandwidth was hitting 29 Mbps. I was surprised to say the least.
So, here are the different speed tests I did (mind you, these are all burst speeds, but they are a good clue in):
Cable Modem -> Netgear Router -> PC = 10Mbps Cable Modem -> Vonage Router -> PC = 29Mbps Cable Modem -> Vonage Router -> Netgear Router -> PC = 1.2 Mbps
So, in short, my Netgear Router is a piece of junk. Time to get a new router.
Now I have the solid excuse I needed to buy a new router.
Any suggestions? I would prefer something wireless, but I dont care about draft N. I would also prefer gig ethernet as well.
Again, thanks everyone for the awesome responses. |
