I'm not sure what cable modem you're using. But my experience with Motorola and Scientific Atlanta cable modems is that any time I plug a different device directly into the modem (i.e. a different router to be used between the cable modem and my LAN) it is necessary to power-cycle the cable modem. It apparently remembers the MAC address of the device it talks to, and won't talk to any other MAC until it has been re-initialized. |

Hi and thanks for your reply I did all that with no success
I thought it might be to enter some parameters in the Vonage router I do not have a static IP.. I do have a dynamic one, but that did not work I tried going in PPPoE, and it asked for user name and passord, which I do not have. I even got a new wireless router, still same problem.. I got that returned. So I am stuck Riyad |

Refreshing the CAM table to allow for a new device MAC address. Turn off the Cable Modem, and then remove the coax (the one that screws into the cable modem) and turn off the TA (Vonage device). Wait 300 seconds (five minutes). Reattach the coax cable. and turn the cable modem on. Once the online/internet/cable (depends on the modem) is solid turn on the TA.
If this does not work please provide a list and the order of all of the network appliances that are being used.
I just reread your post. Are you saying that you do get dial tone but your computers internet access is down when you added the wireless modem? I have had some Motorola modems using 192.168.1.x for the LAN network address. Adding a Linksys, that also uses 192.168.1.x for a network address would result in an address conflict and cause the behavior you are describing. |

Ok I will try what you describe.. In the meantime I only have that Cable box to which is connected the coax and from there it goes to the Vonage dlink wireless router, from which I connect from one of the ethernet ports my computer..
Forget about the dial tone.. I don't have it activated.. Yes internet access is down when I connect the wireless DLink device Thanks! |
