I am actually looking at a topic which was posted earlier - but is not currently active

http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic14609.html

I cannot surf certin websites such as MSN, Hotmail, or check banking statement at Citibank. When I type in the URL and press enter / or click on a link leading to sites such as these, it shows in the bottom of the browser (using hotmail as an example) "Connecting to hotmail.com" then "Waiting for login.live.com" then "Transferring data from login.live.com," and thats it. Just a blank white page and the page does not load. Some websites I can view after much delay: the browser pauses at the transferring data screen for about a minute, and then loads the page. Others, such as hotmail.com, I cannot view at all.

I have a laptop and desktop with me.

Desktop -> VT2442 -> modem ---- Many sites dont open

Laptop -> VT2442 -> modem ---- Everything works!

Desktop -> modem ---- Everything works!

Can anyone tell me what the problem is? I suspect that there is some incompatibility between my router (VT2442) and my desktop.

I have tried all possible ways - MTU, reinstalling the drivers , updating the s/ws and even formatting my system.

Example of sites which dont open

www.msn.com
www.microsoft.com
www.java.com
https://www.icicibank.com

There are many other sites which dont open.

I have used tracert to track the packets - www.microsoft.com

I am pasting the information here .

What DNS servers are indicated on the PC when everything functions?
-and-
What DNS servers are indicated on the PC when everything fails?
More and more ISPs are denying ports used for secure connections if the DNS server is outside of their logical network.

Why is this . . . a lot of folks use Open DNS or others, either as a primary or secondary DNS, which always seemed to make a lot of sense to me, especially when from time to time, the local ISP DNS server does not update correctly. Denying SSL just because you are using an outside DNS makes little sense to me, but I am sure there is a reason.

Perhaps a DNS server that has been hacked pointing one to a phishing page?

Here is the DNS servers info when it doesnt work

Desktop -> VT2442 -> Modem

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

deleted to hide personal information

Here it is when it works

Desktop -> Modem

deleted to hide personal information

I have a question :

If connecting through Vt2442 was the problem then how is my laptop able to connect thru the same modem at the same time and work good? It opens all the sites when I use my laptop.

Try doing this: go into the LAN setup page of the VT2442 and check the box next to "Apply ISP DNS, SNTP". Save the changes. Reboot your PC.

You may also want to flush your DNS cache by going to the command prompt and typing:

ipconfig /flushdns

What I would do to at least nail this down is set a static IP 192.168.15.10 for instance, Gateway 192.168.15.1 and DNS (use both a primary and secondary of 208.67.222.222 and
208.67.220.220 (these are Open DNS servers).

If this works, change the DNS back to 192.168.15.1 and see if it works.

If it does, I would start my DHCP IP assignment on the router above 192.168.15.2 and see if that works.

If no luck in the above check the registry for your MTU size. The default is 1500. Try lowering 10 1492 or 1392.

Packet fragmentation may cause some HTTP sites to time out, or so they say. (see http://support.iprimus.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=352&Itemid=214)
