I went the all knowing sage, Google and saw a lot of posts about "certain" secure sites will not open and it seems the MTU setting may be the answer (see my previous post)
What is interestng is that as the packets travel through a router they MAY grow, which would explain why you can connect at the modem but not through the router. We are ALL guessing, but worth a try. |

In the linked article there is a test you can run on your pc,:
"To solve this problem you should reduce the MTU packet size on your router and or on your computer until the fragmentation stops. A simple test for MTU issues can be found here ( http://support.iprimus.com.au/static-pages/mtu-eyechart.html ), called the MTU Eyechart. The MTU Eyechart works by displaying a series of images of certain sizes, increasing down the page. If you get part way and some of the images stop loading, this should indicate what size packets are being dropped." |

Yeah, I am not sure how that test works, but sounds like you MAY be on the right track anyway |

someone suggested using a ping test like: ping yahoo.com -f -l 1492
Keep lowering the size (1492) until it no longer says "Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set". Then begin increasing the packet size from this number in small increments until you find the largest size that does not fragment. Add 28 to that number (IP/ICMP headers) to get the optimal MTU setting. For example, if the largest packet size from ping tests is 1462, add 28 to 1462 to get a total of 1490 which is the optimal MTU setting. :
C:\Documents and Settings>ping yahoo.com -f -l 1492
Pinging yahoo.com [68.180.206.184] with 1492 bytes of data:
Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set. Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set. Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set. Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set.
Ping statistics for 68.180.206.184: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),
C:\Documents and Settings>ping yahoo.com -f -l 1400
Pinging yahoo.com [68.180.206.184] with 1400 bytes of data:
Reply from 68.180.206.184: bytes=1400 time=73ms TTL=53 Reply from 68.180.206.184: bytes=1400 time=73ms TTL=53 Reply from 68.180.206.184: bytes=1400 time=72ms TTL=53 Reply from 68.180.206.184: bytes=1400 time=72ms TTL=53
Ping statistics for 68.180.206.184: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 72ms, Maximum = 73ms, Average = 72ms |

Thanks every one . I have set my desktop's MTU to 1460 and now it works !
All these days the mistake I was doing was to change the MTU on the router , but realized it today that the MTU size had to be changed on the DESKTOP
I am very happy , all the websites work !!!!
Thanks again and again and again .... |
