Yes I rebooted VonTechMgr. I am running vista home ultimate 64bit. Also i discovered something interesting. Right now I have two IPs on my network 192.168.15.2(my static IP address of my desktop PC) and 192.168.15.3(my laptops dynamic IP address). My laptop can ping my desktop, but my desktop can not ping my laptop. |

Doesn't sound like anything. Do you have a firewall enabled on your Laptop that is filtering ICMP that is not running on your Desktop. That's all that sounds like to me.
Try this. It is the 2nd Registry edit. Possibly the first one on top of the page did not work for you.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\{GUID}
Value name: DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag
Value type: REG_DWORD
Value data: 0 |

The DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag is already in my registry and it's value is set to 0. |

Here are the other 2 fixes used when Disabling the Broadcast flag is not enough.
Disable the IP Helper service:
1. Hold the Windows key and type R, enter "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
2. Scroll down to the IP Helper service, right click on it and select Properties
3. In the dropdown box that says "Automatic" or "Manual", set it to Disabled and then click on "Apply"
4. Then click on "Stop" to stop the service from running in the current session
5. Click OK to exit the dialog
Disable IPv6:
1. Hold the Windows key and type R, enter "ncpa.cpl" (without the quotes) and press Enter
2. Right click on each network connection and select "Properties"
3. Remove the checkmark from the box next to "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)
4. Click OK to exit the dialog |

Holy shniza! Your first recommendation of disabling the IP helper service worked. You are my new god VonTechMgr. Funny thing is I'm trying to be an IT admin, I'm guessing that is why I'm working at a golf course right now |

Glad I could help. I can't take credit for the resolution since I only researched the issue as I have seen it many times before and knew the root cause. All Praise the great and mighty Google.
Be very happy at the golf course. I would love to switch with you. Technology as a hobby is great and I love it but doing doing it every day as a career for almost 15 years is not a picnic. It just pays the bills. And stay away from Corporate America as long as you can.
Can't wait to leave it behind to live free and ride hard. |
