Post subject: background noise tones solved !!!!
I have a five phones daisy chained to a splitter that goes to one phone and to the Motorola VT2442 rounter, iMac connected to cable.
For the last two weeks I have been hearing five tones repeating over and over in the background as I used any of my hardline phones. I called customer service last night and the fellow directed me to plugging in my phone directly into the rounter, leaving all the other phones dead. The tones went away and we figured the splitter had gone bad. I bought a new splitter this morning but the problem was back when I used the splitter to the daisy chained phones.
I disconnected each of the phones and kept testing, eventually to discover that a sixth phone (an old wireless portable with base station) was the culprit. Disconnected it and the problem is gone. FYI
