Since I am going to back to my country I tried to disconnect the service. I am going on 31st and my billing cycle falls on 29th, since they take 1month advance rent, they cant provide me service from 29th to 31st. They do not have prorate billing. I have to disconnect it on 28th. Then what is the point in taking the service.

Since the service is more than a year old Vonage told me that I do not have to return the device but there will be a disconnection fee of $29.99. When I asked them if you can unlock the device so that I can use it as a switch, they told no. I don't understand the point. You are taking the penalty of not using the service and you can not unlock. That means I am going to through the device in garbage. Thats ridiculous.

And one more thing the customer service told me that, if your billing cycle fall on a weekend then you cant disconnect. You have to pay for next billing cycle. They can not disconnect the service on a future date. That means the customer remember and call on the same day to disconnect.

Have you spoken to an account manager (not a customer service agent) yet about your concerns? I'm sure they can help you close your account in a timely manner without any delays.

The Vonage device is already unlocked to use as a router, you do not need to have the Vonage service for that function to operate. However, Vonage will not unlock the telephone ports so that you can use it with another Voip provider.

I'm just curious - will you not have any use for your Vonage service when you move back to your country?

Thanks for the suggestions. I will talk to an a/c manager.

I want the phone ports to be unlocked. If you are charging penalty then you should unlock the device. Without the phone port the switch is not of any use. I do not have a wireless com Voip switch.

No, in India Vonage does not provide service.

An account manager may or may not be willing to waive the disconnect fee. However, they absolutely will not unlock the phone port. It's more than likely possible to do, but it's not one of the things that can be discussed on this board (not that I am disagreeing with you).
