I have a HTPC setup with Vista Ult. media center installed. I have also installed Vista caller ID on it, I have tried 3 different US Robotics modems. Nothing works, but I get caller ID info on my home phone. I also have a smart box with phone distrubution wiring for the house, I wired around that and put a wire from the Vonage adapter to the modem, still nothing reporting. I pull up Hyperterminal and input the command strings that are required for caller ID to function, and all I get on the hyperterm. screen is ring.... ring..... ring...... ring.... ring...., but my phone is showing the caller ID? I even tried it on my laptop via a USB US robotics modem, and I'm getting the same thing... Ring... ring.... Ring....

My adaper is a VT2142

It's possible that the VT2142 is not performing correctly. This has been a problem with other Vonage boxes, such as the RTP300, in the past. The first step is to disconnect the output of the 2142 from your home wiring. Plug a caller ID unit directly into the phone jack on the 2142 and see how it works. Whether it works in that configuration or not, you'll need to make contact with Vonage support to correct the problem, but you'll want to have that information before you call.

I tried that and went into my modem directly from the Vonage unit, and I get the same, ring, ring, ring..... If I tie just my phone in I get the call ID info fine, and then if I run it back into the home wiring I also get the caller ID info on the phone, just not in the modem? I'm wondering if this is a type I or Type II CID problem? Does any one know what the Vonage adapter outputs? Both or just type II?

Thanks

Brian

Are your modems using Vista-certified drivers? If not, that could be the source of your problem right there.

They are both the most up to date drivers off the US Robotics site, both said to be for Vista.

I went over the the neighbors "customer access pannel" he has good old reg. phone no Vonage.... He was at work, so I hooked my laptop up to his line, and called his number with my cel phone... I got this report...from a program called Asendis Caller ID

Command to enable caller id is "AT+VCID=1<cr>"
DATE response is "DATE = "
TIME response is "TIME = "
NMBR response is "NMBR = "
NAME response is "NAME = "

Checking modem settings
"EnableCallerID" setting key found
"EnableCallerID\1" setting value found
Current command to enable caller id is "AT+VCID=1<cr>"
Current command matches detected command ("AT+VCID=1<cr>") and will not be changed
"Init" setting key found
Current init command to enable caller id is "AT+VCID=1<cr>"
Settings do NOT need repair

Checking modem responses
"DATE" response ("<cr><lf>DATE = ") appears correct ("hex:93,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00")
"TIME" response ("TIME = ") appears correct ("hex:94,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00")
"NAME" response ("NAME = ") appears correct ("hex:96,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00")
"NMBR" response ("NMBR = ") appears correct ("hex:95,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00")
"MESG" response ("MESG = ") appears correct ("hex:97,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00")
Responses do NOT need repair

Then I went back and did it at my house from my Vonage adapter cutting out my smart box... same report... Then I tried it in Hyperterminal.... Ring... Ring... Ring...

ARG!!!
