Hello there
I've been using Vonage phone in India for the last two weeks. I have a linksys PAP2 adapter and BSNL broadband connection. I have no problem with the internet connection or the call quality. However, the phone disconnects every now and then which is annoying when I am in the middle of the conversation. Sometimes, it would stop working aftee 3 minuts of conversation, and at times after 10 minutes. There is no trend. Sometimes, it stops working even when I am not using it. What I mean by these disconnects is that the phone goes dead, and all the lights on the adapter switch themselves off. If I switch off the power supply and switch it back again, the phone works, and so on.
I believe, this is due to the adapter. Anyone here knows what the solution is?
Note - since I am using this in India, I need to step down the voltage from 240 to 120 by using a step-down. Could that be the reason? Other equipments that I use with this stepped down voltage work fine, though.
Thanks |

it sounds like the issue I was having with my RTP300. It very well could be that the adapter is going bad. |

It could be a bad adapter, but it might not be. How often is the router getting a new IP addy? Latency and roundtrip times could flucuate and drop the connection.
I'd try posting the info in the sticky and I'm sure the forum will add some ideas. |

thank you, kamnet and outerfire.
outerfire, my router gets a new IP address a couple of times a day. but since the adapter switches itself off after some time and the internet connection is fine, i think i agree with you and kamnet that this could be a bad adapter. let me experiment with it some more.
thanks again

The router gets a new IP from your ISP more than once a day? That may be an issue with your ISP's router then. If it is frequently switching, then it might be that the Vonage adapter is simply losing sync because of the frequent switching, and restarting it will resync it.
I don't know anything about Internet providers in India, but that seems a little excessive. Normally (at least here in the United States) once you connect to the system you're given a lease period of at least one day, commonly seven days, and normally when the lease renews on the IP you're given the same on again. Have you checked with your ISP to verify that their devices are functioning normally? |
