Just spoke with Comcast and they told me to go to pcpitstop.com to run my test, my results were 1136 download bandwith, the rep stated that was a little low, she then suggested I clear my cookies and and then run either adaware or spybot and that should give you a higher download bandwith. Well. I ran both applications and my bandwidth is still approx 1136. I haven't called back Comcast yet to give my results but the rep stated before I got off the phone that everything seemed okay because she was running some tests on her end. Any suggestions? |

heh
well anyway, there is apparently some issue between you and your isp. it may be your computer or router if you have one, or it could be the hub you connect to (isp). apparently you're getting good signal levels and whatnot. do they not have a local download test? do they provide web space for you? if so, I would upload something to the web space and see what upload and download speeds you get with it. having a test at a local server proves the problem is you/your isp or not. |

Bluesters -- don't take that as gospel... I gotta ancient Compaq here that's chugging along with 2 P3 586 MHz chips... and posted a download from that page at 536 kbs (Test details: 800 kilobytes downloaded in 11.953 seconds). Ran the same test from my other PC (a less ancient P3) and got 2630 kbs (Test details: 3354 kilobytes downloaded in 10.203 seconds).
Mind you, both PCs are using same router that's connected to a single cable modem.
Seems to me that the PC performance is too large a factor... |

Don't take what as gospel, the fact that my bandwidth test was only 1136 or that the Comcast rep said everything was OK. Didn't quite understand |

The results of the bandwidth test seem questionable to me. It tests bandwidth to/from your PC.
Vonage calls go to/from your adaptor (which doesn't have any of the adware, spyware, antivirus or other stuff which slow down processing). The actuals to and from your adaptor are probably different than the results from the web test. |

Ok Thanks, So my problem lies in my adapter. How do I get clearer calls on my phone conversations. I can hear the other end perfectly, the other end has a hard time hearing me.
Thanks for your help Crisp |

Blue,
You'll also want to look at the nasty trip of packet loss, delay and latency (the speed test here is a good start, and a lot of folks check http://testyourvoip.com too).
Speed is always good, but quality of connection is your best bet for clear calling.
Good Luck! |
