I now have a Motorola vt 2142-vd router and I want to be able to use a wirless headset. I don't know where to start. What do I need to do first.
I bought a wirless-G 2.4ghz - broadband router. . . if I hook that up will it work? I was thinking of making my printer wirless. . . and whatever else I could in my office.
Will I be able to use the wirless headset all over the house and back yard area???
Before I go unplugging stuff . . thought I'd ask some one here. |

I think you have some confusion so it is a good thing you asked here first before making a purchase.
A wireless headset does not provide phone audio through a wireless router. The wireless headset has to be able to communicate with the phone itself. Just like a bluetooth enabled cell phone with a bluetooth headset. So in order for you to use a wireless headset, you would need to either have a bluetooth headset and bluetooth enabled home phone that will pair with the headset. The phone would just connect to the Vonage adapter the same way you used to plug a phone into the wall.
Your other option is to get a kit that connects to your existing phone and provides you with bluetooth connectivity and a headset. But this requires a compatibility check as not all phones will work with these types of kits.

Your wireless router will only provide wireless access to your network which allows your laptop or wireless printer to share network and internet access. |

And I also see you were talking about distance to your yard. Bluetooth and RF will only get you about 30 feet straight line distance without interference from the base unit to the headset.
If your looking to be able to go hands free and need the distance, you should just get yourself a 5.8ghz or a DECT 6.0 cordless phone system. It will come with one base unit that will connect to Vonage adapter and comes with 1 or 2 additional handsets to place in other rooms. With these you can walk half way down your street and still have connection in most conditions and environments. Most of these phones will have a jack for a headset shown below.

While this is not entirely hands free as you would need to put the phone in your pocket or clip it to your belt, you would be able to work freely and maintain distance. This will also keep the cost down if you already own newer model cordless phones as you may not need to buy anything other then the headset which is very inexpensive . |

Here is what you want for the hottest headset phone. You can plug it into your landline, you can plug it into a USB port for usage with Skype and other Voip softphones, it will connect with any Bluetooth wireless device, it's DECT 6.0 w/ a range of 250-300 feet, and has a small wireless handset/dialpad that fits in a shirt pocket.

And at $199, that's freaking AWESOME! Amazon reviews give it 4/5 stars, 3.5/5 from CNet Editor reviews, 4.5/5 from CNet User reviews. |
