Sounds like you may be having a problem with your outgoing bandwidth.
First, run a speed test at http://myvoipspeed.visualware.com/
If there is a problem, I would contact your cable company.
If not, I assume you have already reset your cable modem and vonage device (unplug each and in turn plug in your cable modem then your Vonage device). If not do so.
If still a problem, are you running any torrents or other high bandwidth applications on your computer(s). Torrent use will cause bandwidth usage problems even over a period of time AFTER you stop using the software, as other torrent clients continue to hit your IP looking for a download.
If you are not knowingly running a high bandwidth application, you may still be dong so due to a virus (low probablility). I assume you have a firewall and antivirus on your computers to limit this. BUT, shut down your computer(s) and see if the telephone issue is resolved. Also if you have a wireless acces point or router, make sure it is secure and others (pesky neighbors) are not stealing bandwidth. Change the password, change the security method to something else besides WEP (like WPA2)
Lastly, if everything checks out, change your bandwidth saver on your fetures page (Vonage site) to 30 KBPS, the lowest setting and see if that helps.
If not, and you have eleminated the possibility it is high bandwidth use on computers, the ISP (cable company) and have changed your bandwidth usage to 30kbps, call Vonage. |

Also, if you need help interpreting the results of the test, post the detailed results here. |

I had a similar issue when I first setup my vonage. It was very sporadic and hard to point out. Mine was related to two things, comcast was having issues with their dedicated pipe to Vonage's network and when that was resolved I found that I also needed to setup QoS for the Vonage adapter on my router.
During large transfers on my cable internet, the phone quality would drop significantly. |

had the exact same problem for the last 2 weeks. i could hear the person but they could not hear me, sometimes just bits and pieces.
tried different phones, different jacks, also plugging direct to v-portal.also called cable company, who came out and checked connection, which was working just fine. finnaly moved my v-portal unit away from my modem(at least 4 feet) and have not had a problem in 5 days. also changed my vonage bandwith setting to 30. hope this helps. mike |
