I have a phone in Line1 and a fax in Line 2, can I just short 3 & 4 in each one?? Will this have the same effect??

Darn, anyway to get Vonage to switch out the router? I just set it up today, It works well but, there is a noise in the background. The best way to describe teh sound is a muted Phaser from the original (60's) Star Trek. Phaser Sound

Thats the noise literally to a T! Use my RJ11 Method and it will be gone.

When they get the new routers they can swap em out.

So it's not just me, it is a phaser sound... Well at least we can all refer to it that way and know what were are talking about.

Perhaps we can get a firmware update from linksys so we can set it to stun.... Wink

Your method only works using a single line in line one and a shorted RJ11 in line 2 Correct?? If I have a Phone in line 1 and a fax in line two I can't use it right??

Until you get a router that is fixed and does not have the issue keep the shorted RJ11 in phone 2 while you are on a call and or leave it in until you need to fax.

I sat online for 38minutes to get a support person, meanwhile I google the whitenoise question and I got this forum.

while im reading you guys's post the tech comes on, and tells me that its a known linksys issue and they are going to fix it. i say 'give me a sec' and cut a phone cord, twist 3and4 together and plug it in.

dang if it didnt work. Razz

I told the tech about it, he asked for the forum link, and went and showed his boss. Rolling Eyes

so, now what, do I exchange the router (I have the WRTG54GP2) or just keep this one and hope for the best . .

BTW thanks for the help, I love it when the community comes through.

oh and on a personal note, pretty big SNAFU on the part of linksys/cisco.

Anytime buddy, I actually saw some similiar posts and just took what I read to make a little easier fix.

I have had my Linksys device tweaked out and it is working great. I still have the shorted rj-11 in and think I will just keep what I have since it works so well.

They are suppose to be getting new devices though that have the problem fixed. I would call and request one if you have not already.
