Me and my buddy did this and IT WORKS GREAT. I just think its sad that 1. Vonage HAS NOT ACKNOWLEDGED THIS ISSUE AS OF YET!!!!
2. And that it affected so many people that we the customers had to try different things in order to resolve VONAGES PROBLEM! Mad

So with that said I want to give a huge thanks to AspectTec for supplying us with this fix. Maybe just maybe Vonage will get off their ass and get this fixed!

Would plugging in an old landline phone into line 2 and leaving it off hook accomplish the same thing?

Ok.. does anyone have a WORKING linksys? I'm curious if I'm just hyper sensative.. or do I suffer from the issue? In other words... I hear hissing when I make a call.. but it doesn't drown the call out.. but I'd like it to be quiet.. is this just comfort noise? Or is this the problem you all speak of (I'm off to crimp one of those now!!)

You have the problem more than likely. The easiest way to find out is by plugging a phone in to port 2 and taking it off hook and then listening again.

You can actually go on and off hook while a call is in progress and hear it come and go.

Honestly, im of the opinion that thousands of subscribers have these defective units and are due replacements.

I think mine has it a little, but it doesn't really bother me too much. if they start putting out new ones that are completely fixed, I may request one.

And you are right. The noise does not drown the call out by any means but it is detected nontheless and it is because of a defective unit imo.

Hrmm interesting.. I had Vonage about 9 months ago .. and had a motorola unit which had the same problem... then I canceled due to not having broadband.. and now I'm back with a linksys... interesting.

I had Vonage replace my Linksys with a Motorolla and never had this problem again. The only issue that I've had with the Motorolla is that occasionally I just get "incoming call" as my callerid information (even though I can see the callerid info when I login to my Vonage account). Unplugging the ATA for a few seconds usually resolves this issue so I'm not complaining too much.

woohoo I just tried the "short the pins" trick.. and it worked.. very quiet.. except (yeah I must be wierd) I can now "hear" when the "internet" light on my device blinks.. ... in that I hear click click click as it's blinking.. before I dial the number it's very quiet... not horrible.. definatley BETTER then the hissssssss.. wonder if the hiss was there to cover up the ticking ?
