Vonage didn't leave you without a phone. AT&T left you without Internet service. If AT&T had not disconnected your Internet service, you would have had your phone service. I would be very upset with this as well, but AT&T had a responsibility here that they failed to perform. All Vonage can do is carry out your request to port your number from AT&T to Vonage. Vonage cannot (and does not) deal with maintaining your Internet service, that was entirely AT&T's responsibility. AT&T is the company that failed you, not Vonage.

That's strange since I don't have ATT Internet service to begin with. I guess that would cause a problem. Vonage knew what internet service I have when I ordered the service, they said they would call ATT for me and take care of the transfer for me. Then, when I called them when my phone stopped working, they informed me I would have to keep my land line or switch ISP's. I should have been told this beforehand, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. That is my point and it is a valid one. All I am saying is, Vonage should verify their customers equipment will work with their service before leaving them without a phone and then informing them afterwards that it will not work. That would be good customer service.

Apparently you're not telling the whole story here.

You blame Vonage for the loss of your Internet service, which according to you now is not AT&T. However, Vonage only had communications with AT&T to port your number from AT&T to Vonage. If your Internet provider is not AT&T, but the phone number for the DSL line went through AT&T, then the failure is between AT&T and your 3rd party Internet provider.

Either AT&T should have notified your ISP that your service would be disconnected by porting the number, and arranged for a new number to take its place, or your ISP should have noticed that your service was disconnected and talked to AT&T about re-establishing it.

How could Vonage have known ANYTHING about this arrangement? Vonage has NOTHING to do with your Internet service, they're not responsible AT ALL for maintaining your Internet service.

I agree that you shouldn't have had to do anything other than tell Vonage you wanted to move your number. And from what I can see, that is all Vonage did. It was actions taken either by AT&T or by your ISP (or, perhaps, their lack of proper action) that has caused this situation.

Again, your anger here is not unfounded or without merit, but it is misplaced.

OK now I'm a liar. I never once said I had ATT Internet. You ASSuMEd so. Vonage KNEW WHAT ISP I HAVE AND I WAS TOLD EVERYTHING WOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF. What part of that don't you understand? I wish I knew as much about nothing as you obviously do. You must have your head so far up Vonage's butt you will never understand. Thanks Mr, Know It All

None of this even matters really, I am just waiting for the switch back and I am through with it. Thanks trekologer and vontechmgr for the help. Thanks kamnet for being an arrogant annoyance.

I never said you were a liar, I said that you are leaving information out. There is a world of difference there. And you're right, I did assume, because you IMPLIED that your Internet provider is AT&T.

Even if Vonage knew who your Internet provider is, THEY HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR INTERNET PROVIDER. All Vonage was responsible for, and all they COULD do, was notify AT&T that you requested to move your telephone number from their service to your service.

I'm sorry you feel that I'm being arrogant and annoying, that certainly isn't my intention. I'm just trying to help you understand why your anger is misplaced. If you feel that I'm some sort of Vonage fanboy, you obviously have not bothered to read any of my other posts on this site, especially ones written in the last two weeks.

If Vonage deserves jeers for bad service, then I'm not going to defend bad service. In this case, though, I don't see where Vonage gave you the raw deal. AT&T and/or your Internet provider were the ones who did you the disservice. Vonage attempted to do its job.

Still, if you want to rant and cry about how it's all Vonage's fault, so be it. If you don't want to listen to at least three voices who have tried to help you, that is your right, and we can't stop you. At least Vonage is being courteous enough with moving your telephone number back to AT&T, and I hope you are satisfied with AT&T's service. And hopefully you will be more courteous to AT&T for their mistakes than you will be to the visitors of this forum who tried to help you.

Mesaman,

This forum has been a place for people to get help in cofiguring their Vonage service, discussion aboout the service and relevant news about Vonage. What really drives me up a wall is that some choose to come here simply to rant about Vonage with no intention of asking for assistance from other users, their ultimate purpose appears to be to make people question whether Vonage is a good deal or more, whether the company is ethical..

Whether this was your intention or not, the statements at the end of your 1st post appeared to be just that:

YOU DON'T WANT VONAGE!!!!

YOU DON'T WANT VONAGE!!!!

YOU DON'T WANT VONAGE!!!!

Then you get upset when you are challenged about who was at fault with regard to your internet being disconnected. Rolling Eyes

I say this poster is just a troller trying to stir things up. We as Vonage users know how things work.

In order to have Vonage you require a DSL line or cable internet, without these it will not work.

Vonage has no way of having anyone's internet disconnected unless the person is using DSL and then it is the users responsibility to have a naked DSL line.

Vonage did their part in porting the number from "AT&T".

Vonage only works as good as your internet connection.

If my friend told me they had bad connections with Vonage, then I would probably stay away from them. Unlike this person who posted, didn't listen to their friend.

I don't think he meant to stir up trouble, I think he was frustrated with how things were going. I also think that he just didn't like being told that his blame was misplaced and that he, possibly, could be wrong.
