I bought a Vonage v-portal 2nd hand on ebay.
When it arrived and I went to activate it, it turns out I can't as there is a balance owed on the account. The account is locked [very strongly] to the Vonage router's mac address.
The Vonage sales rep still got my business--they are sending me a free V-portal (no long term contract, no rebate, just free) and are waving the $29.99 activation fee. So that is pretty cool.
But this policy is wasteful for everyone involved.
First, it is frustrating that there is no education out there that could have alerted me to the dangers of buying a Vonage v-portal second hand.
Secondly, who else has this type of operation? |
Its a shame you didn't find this forum before you bought the device on eBay as there are many threads telling people not do to this. |

Have to say that it worked out better for me. They comped the router, waived the activation fee, and the router arrived two days later.
Sound quality is pretty good.
Still don't know what to do with the old router... |

Good to hear. Do everyone a favor and recycle the router. I wouldn't it getting to someone else's hands and then having the same problem. |
