When it arrived and I went to activate it, it turns out I can't as there is a balance owed on the account. The account is locked [very strongly] to the Vonage router's mac address.
The Vonage sales rep still got my business--they are sending me a free V-portal (no long term contract, no rebate, just free) and are waving the $29.99 activation fee. So that is pretty cool.
But this policy is wasteful for everyone involved.
First, it is frustrating that there is no education out there that could have alerted me to the dangers of buying a Vonage v-portal second hand.
Secondly, who else has this type of operation?
Its a shame you didn't find this forum before you bought the device on eBay as there are many threads telling people not do to this.
