Greetings,
Long time Vonage users but during the last few months, every time we call out on our phone, when we hang up the receiver the phone rings. It will continue to ring until we pick up the headset. And naturally, no one is on the line. Have a Linksys PAP2 version 3.1.9. |

Ring back after terminating a Vonage call is an indication that there is still an RTP(audio) session active. This means that upon hanging up, your phone does a Hook Flash instead of an On Hook. So the call is being placed on hold instead of being hung up.
Do you notice this more when calling into an automated system like a bank, credit card company, or conference bridge over normal calls where the other side is answered by a human?
What model Vonage adapter do you have? Do you have 1 or 2 phone numbers on this adapter?
What is the make and model of your phone / phones and how do they connect to the Vonage service?(connected directly to the Vonage adapter, connected through home wiring, connected to a splitter)
If your using a cordless phone, make sure you are using the correct button to hang up. Some phones will have an Off button and some people tend to hit Talk instead. This would place an active call on hold as if you flashed over which would generate the ring back. |

I've noticed this happens with our Comcast Digital Voice service as well. It seems to be certain phones (usually NOT cordless with the END/TALK buttons). It seems to always be a phone that is WALL-MOUNTED and when you "hang" the phone up it doesn't push the button down far enough to terminate the call. |

Standard telephones will do it as well since when the receiver is placed back in the base, it depresses the the button to terminate the call. However this same button can also be used to flash over. This becomes an issue of the CPC duration. If the voltage drop is short, it will be detected as a Hook Flash instead of an On Hook. The chances of this happening increase when the addition of home wiring or splitters are put into play. |
