I recently switched to Vonage and had ADT for my home alarm system. The Vonage rep told me " that Vonage may interfere" with my home alarm system but he didn't give me the whole story. I called ADT and they told me blah, blah, blah...lots of $$$$, etc.
I did some research and the company Vonage recommends isn't in my area (AL) so I found NextAlarm. I am not at all technically savvy but I finally installed and tested with Nextalarm. They have been very helpful with customer service! I did need to buy and ABN adapter ($100) and a wireless G bridge ($80?) since my alarm panel is on a different floor than my router, etc.
I probably would have paid a fortune just to get away from ADT (as I was so thrilled to leave Bellsouth!) ADT nickeled and dimed us for years and now I pay $9/month.
I hope this encourages some of you! |

The theory is that if a burglar were to take a phone off the hook, this would prevent the system from dialing ADT so by putting the ADT system between the street and the house, it can switch the house phones off while dialing to prevent phones off the hook from interferring. Mine had hot phone lines connected to both the "in" and the "out" and on top of that, they had the "in" and "out" leads reversed between the ADT ciruit board and the RJ45 junction box for the incoming line. I disconnected the street thereby disabling all of the hot leads but I connected my Vonage to the leads that were the "in" on the junction box but connected to the "out" leads internally. When my ADT system attempted to dial, it switched off the incoming hot leads and could not dial.

Hi, I just wanted to clarify something to help resolve a problem I'm having. My ADT system is a Safewatch Pro 3000 EN. Am I understanding correctly that my system should look like this: 1) The Vonage box goes directly to the RJ45 junction box which in turn connects to the two "IN" connections on the ADT board and... 2) Connect the two internal "OUT" leads on the ADT board to my home phone wiring?
I am running into a problem getting my ADT system to send the alarm signal. Currently the RJ45 junction box connects to both internal board connections properly (I think) but I'm afraid that the wiring around the box (various junctions, etc) might have gotten crossed over time. I'd like to test this by running the line directly from the Vonage box as I mentioned above and then directly to one phone set to test. What do you think?
Thanks for your help. --Don-- |

Here's a security provider that was designed with Voip in mind. Check out http://ucontrol.com. It uses three redundant paths back to their monitoring station - broadband, cellular, and traditional phone lines. Also allows you to remotely control and monitor your system via the web or your cell phone. The service works with your existing alarm system (ADT or others). |

Unfortunately, uControl works with newer ADT systems, not older ones. And the newer ones can take ADT's cell system, so, what's the point.

Not sure about it working with older systems...but I know that ADT's Cell backup doesn't give you any remote control functionality. |
