Post subject: Internet Connection Terrible Ever Since I Got Vonage
I have Qwest DSL with a VDV21-VD
Vonage
and an Action Tec modem from Qwest and a Linksys DSL Router. Ever since I hooked up the
vonage
I have experienced numerous and daily timeouts with internet explorer. Some times the browser does not load at all- and other times it freezes up- especially when trying to do a down load. In all cases I get the message that it is" not responding"
Getting the
Vonage
service mysteriously coincided with the arrival of this annoying problem so I suspect
Vonage
is the culprit.
Any ideas? Other than the price, I am generally not a happy
vonage
camper and will definitely be cancelling if I cannot get it fixed.. The call quality is poor and I am dealing with this problem above too.

What is your setup (in terms of how your equipment is connected)? Is it only the internet that gives you problems or the voice as well (you mention both but just making sure)? Please post the specifics in the sticky as well so the members of this forum have all the information necessary to begin troubleshooting your issues.

Did you try to connect your computer directly to action tec router?

The voice was really breaking up bad at first but I lowered the bandwith which eliminated the breaking up. Now I can at least carry on a conversation though the quality is only barely acceptable (every call sounds like a long distance call to a remote island).
The DSL comes in to the modem then goes out of modem and in to the
vonage
- then out of the
vonage
and into the router and then out from from the router to the computer. This was configured with the help desk. Is there a better way to run the cables?

Just for testing purposes, connect your router directly to the modem and the
Vonage
adpater to the router. Make sure to set the
Vonage
adapter up for DHCP (turn off PPPoE) and turn it on in the router.
Also, in the sticky there are instructions to run speed tests. Please run them and post the results so we can have a look at what your connection is like.
