Thanks in advance for any help.
About once a week, the v-portal will loose connection to the network.
Network setup: Linksys Cable Modem - BEFCMU10 Linksys Router - BEFSR41 Router/DHCP service is running XBOX360 - Hardwired direct to router, no connection problems WII - Hardwired through hub, no connection problems Tivo - hardwired through hub, no connection problems V-Port - Hardwired direct to router PC - Hardwired direct to router, no connection problems
The DHCP service is turned off on the v-portal, and about once a week the v-portal shows a 004 error. I have to reboot the router and v-portal and it works great for about another week. Any ideas?

Since this seems to happen on a regualr basis, once per week, it sounds as though the Vportal is not renewing its lease. Check the linksys router to see if the DHCP lease is set for the timeframe that you are loosing the Vportal.
If I am correct, then the next quesion is why does the Vportal not renew its lease. |

Are you sure it's the V-Portal and not the router losing the IP address to it? I have a V-Portal behind my router, plugged in default with whatever network settings come out of the box. No static address. I just had to replace that router because it was going all wonky and losing DHCP leases upstream and downstream both. When you say your game consoles have no problem is that no problem when your V-Portal DOES have a problem? |

At this time, I'm not sure which is losing the connection.
Client lease is the default for the router - 24hrs.
When the v-portal has it's connection loss, I can still use everything else on the network with no problem.

Ok then we know it's not the router most likely. |

In your original post, you said "The DHCP service is turned off on the v-portal".
Is this turned off on the LAN or WAN side? |

When I plug the ethernet cable directly from the computer to the phone adapter and do a "ipconfig /renew" it doesn't get an IP address, I'm assuming it's turned off correctly on the adapter.

If I understand you correctly, you have disabled the DHCP client (WAN side) of your V-Portal. If this is the case, it is not requesting an IP address from your router, nor is it renewing it. (Can't renew a non-existing lease, can we?) If you need to disable DHCP on the V-Portal, then you should assign it a static IP address outside of the range of addresses being assigned by your router to DHCP clients. Then make sure that the assigned IP address is not used by any other device on the LAN side of your router. |
