The family recently switched to Vonage, and we're using the V-Portal.
We use comcast as are ISP, so the signal goes from the modem to a Linksys WRT350N. The Four connections on the router goes to separate rooms and my office. Prior to using the V-Portal, all computers and media centers connected to each other just fine. I know the V-Portal doubles as a router, but since all wireless phones in the house work out of one base unit, I connected the V-Portal to the Ethernet connection in the office and connected the office PC and the wireless phone main base to the V-Portal. All phones work fine and the PC in the office also has an internet connection.
The trouble is, the office PC can not connect to other computers in the network/workgroup. This means it's not able to connected to my ReadyNAS which is in the game room. I backup a lot of work/media from my office PC to my ReadyNAS, so I'm sure you can understand the necessity of getting the office PC back on the network/workgroup.
I've disabled the firewall on the V-Portal, but that has not resolved the issue. Any help with this is greatly appreciated, thank you. |

Ok, the problem is your V-Portal creates a whole new network on the LAN side, so the PC connected to it is on a different network than your HOME network, that's why you cannot see the other computers. What you need to do is bring your PC to the same network with others. You can disable the DHCP server on the LAN side and turn off the firewall on the V-Portal, then your V-Portal and your PC should get IP addresses from your Linksys router. Meaning your PC would be on the same network. If that doesn't help try setting static IP addresses (those addresses must be in your Linksys router's DHCP server's IP range) on your V-Portal and on your PC. |

My home network is identical to yours and I'm having the same problem on the PC that's behind the V-Portal. Did you ever find a solution to this problem?
I could get a switch just for that 1 PC but I'm trying not to spend any money if I can help it. Thanks. |

Okay the easiest solution for people new to Vonage would be, plug your vonage adapter directly to the cable modem, and plug your router to the back of the vonage adapter. This will ensure all your computers are plugged into the same router and thus they communicate on the same subnet. |
