This is a new construction house. I ran all the structured wiring for the house. All the cat5e cables are home ran to the data closet.
I have bought Channel Plus DMT-24. I currently plan on using 1 phone line but would like to setup for 4. I do have a patch panel board.

How do I connect the DMT-24 to my Motorola Vt-2142 Vonage device? The DMT 24 has a punch down for the incoming line. But my incoming line from the VT-2142 would be a regular phone wire. How do I punch this down on the dmt-24, when the wire is not even cat5e.
please help |

I suggest using an RJ11 telephone jack. Connect a twisted pair of wires to pins 3 and 4 (the red and green terminals, or the center two) of the jack, and punch them down on pins 3 and 4 of your punch-down block. Then plug a modular line cord into the jack, and plug the other end of that cord into the Phone 1 jack on your Vonage device. |

Are you saying that I should make a custom cable using a cat5 with and RJ11 on one end and punching the wires on my DMT-24. I am assuming you mean the the RJ11 end goes intot the Motorola VT-2142 right? |

No, that is not what I am saying, but it would also work.
I am recommending that you install an RJ-11 jack (not a plug; a jack!) by which I mean a female RJ-11 connector. Connect a twisted pair to the red/green terminals on this jack, and punch that pair down on your punch-down block to connect it to your house telephone wiring.
Then, use a standard telephone line cord (a flat cable with an RJ-11 plug, that is a male connector) on each end. One end goes to the Vonage device phone jack; the other goes to the jack you provided according to the paragraph above.
Another method would be to connect a telephone line cord from the Vonage device phone jack to any phone jack in your house. Don't connect anything to the punch-down. If your phone jacks are all wired together (i.e. connected to the same pair of terminals downstairs) then that will distribute the Vonage dial tone to all jacks. |

Thx Dave, you've got me on the right track. This makes a lot of sense.
All my phone wires are home ran to data closet, so all I have to do is put cat5 plugs on them and connect them to the DMT-24. And hoplefully they will get activated.
