Post subject: How to test if Linksys RT31P2 phone ports are functional?
Hi,
My
VoIP
phone connects to my Linksys RT31P2 router that is connected to a dry-loop DSL with Acanac (and I use the Aztech DSL605EU modem as a bridge).
I used to be able to at least call-out (incoming calls were directed to my voicemail), but since I called
Vonage
tech support to try to get incoming calls (and the tech support asked me to restore default settings), I get no more dial tone... At least, I still get internet access. Both my phone and my laptop are connected to the same Linksys RT31P2 router.
I used to get a green light turned on when my phone was connected to any of the 2 phone ports. Now, none of the phone ports give me any dial tones nor green light...
I have tried resetting factory settings both my DSL modem and my router, upgrading the firmware on both the modem and the router, and contacting
Vonage
support from another phone (since mine doesn't work anymore), but all attemps remained unsuccessful.
Does anyone know how to test whether the Linksys phone ports are broken or still functional
? I mentioned this to the
Vonage
tech support, but they did not seem willing to acknowledge that the Linksys RT31P2 could be suffer a hardware failure...
Thank you in advance for any and all feedback and suggestions!

Hi again,
I forgot to mention that I am using my Aztech DSL605EU modem as in bridge mode because I read other postings that mentioned the modem firewall would make my Linksys RT31P2 router appear invisible to
Vonage
. This would explain why I could make outgoing calls but not receive incoming calls. However, even after I tried to revert to the original settings, I am still incapable of making outgoing calls. No matter what I do, the phone ports give no dial tone and the display on the front shows no light indicating activity in those ports...

I do not know how to test them, other than plugging in a phone, you should hear either a dial tone (on the active line), or a msg stating that you need to activate service 9on the inactive line)..
I have an RT31P2 as well, and about 1 yr after i got it, port 1 fried durring a lightning storm.. I had to call (from my cell) to have them switch my service to port 2, now my port 1 is just dead air, and port 2 gives me dial tone..
there were other users here that had experienced a port droppping out on those routers as well, so yes it is very possible for 1 or both phoe ports to die out, but yet the Ethernet routing will still be active..
call back to
Vonage
and you will speak to someone different, hopefully they will be of more help.. you likely do need a new Router/ATA..

Thank you, dabones,
You bring support to what I suspected all along.
Sadly, I contacted tech supported many, many times, via phone (not from my broken line, of course) and e-mail, and I only got "Try this" and "try that". After trying many times all of the tech support suggestions and following procedures posted all over the web, I got annoyed and I asked for a RMA to get a replacement router.
Even after being a loyal client for 4 years, my (I believe) reasonable request got rejected (multiple times). I cancelled my account, and went to see *c*n*c (replace "*" by "a") for unlimited Canada and US at half the price.
My happy ending: I plugged my SPA2102 in and it worked perfectly right away.
I hope other people will not get as frustrated with
Vonage
tech support as I got. Good luck to all,
EricV
