Hi

Need some help please?

Have EarthLink coming into a Toshiba cable modem from there to
Linksys router - modem cable into Ethernet port, tel line into phone 1, cable 1 into desktop, cable 2 into apple extreme wireless modem ( into an Ethernet port).
Vonage phone service works fine, getting internet access on desktop and the apple modem shows steady green light but no Wi-Fi signal received on my laptop.
Called Vonage tech help line and followed their setup instructions
Been at this for 2 days, what am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

Bob

Your short description is a little hard to follow due to some terminology. What Vonage device are you using(make and model#)? Is it the linksys that you refer to? If not, what Vonage device do you have and where is it in the set up that you explained? What was your set up before adding Vonage? Was it your modem going into the apple extreme router? If you added the linksys to your old set up, then I'm guessing that you have essentially created two different networks. Therefore your laptop that is accessing the wireless router is not able to reach the internet that is behind the linksys. One other question. You say that your laptop doesn't recieve a signal. Do you mean that you can't access the internet or you really aren't getting a signal from the router? There is a big difference between those problems.

Sorry for the poor explanation. The modem is connecting to the linksys from there I plugged the phone line to connect my motorola phone model #md7161-3, 5.8 cordless phone and ran 2 ethernet cables 1. to the desktop (not wireless which can access the internet) and the second to the Apple Extreme wireless router.

The laptop doesnt get a signal from the Apple router.(It pickup other wi-fi networks but not mine)

There was no previous setup this is all new

perezb,

your description leads me to believe that this is a problem b/w your airport extreme and your laptop and therefore not a Vonage problem.

One way to check this is to connect your mac directly to the airport extreme (if it has ethernet ports) and see if you have internet activity. if you can surf the web through a wired connection through your airport exteme, then it's an airport extreme issue.

i hope this helps.

If this is all new then I suspect that you haven't properly configured the airport extreme or the wireless on your laptop like Mundy said. Please tell me if the Linksys is your Vonage device and what is the model#. Did you follow all of the set up instructions for the apple router? I would suggest this: Plug the cable from the modem into the wan port of the apple router. Then plug your computer into one of the apple's ethernet ports and another into your linksys wan port(which I assume is your Vonage device). Power down all of your equipment and then turn it all back on, starting first with the modem and when that is online, power up your routers. This should allow you to reach the config page for the airport extreme and use the linksys as just a Vonage phone adapter.

Tglea, mundy5,

Yes the Linksys router, model rtpRTP300 is my Vonage device .My modem is connected directly to its Wan port and my phone system into its phone jack.

Tried what you suggested – loss Vonage service and internet service to the desktop. Also laptop didn’t find the apple router.
