I'm so fed-up with my issue with Vonage about my refund. After making mannnnnyyyyy phone calls to the 'account manager' explaining my situation, there's no help at all and Vonage still owe me approximatively $125 following the cancellation of the service. Imagine that. I order the service on Sept. 22, cancelled it on Sept. 23 after realizing that since I'm on DSL I still have to pay a phone bill to Bell Canada. They charged me, right away, on my credit card $125 (cancellation fees, activation fees). They pretend I never sent back the modem, but I did the same day I received it, Sept. 25. My mistake, I sent it by regular post with Canada Post, so I don't have a tracking number for the shipment. I just suggest to anybody that even think making business with them to think twice. When Free is not free anymore... Sad Sad Sad Sad

Sorry to tell you that you don't need a phone line with Bell because you have DSL. You can have a dry "naked" DSL line. They may charge you $5.00 for it, but you would still be ahead of the game.

I have the same experience. I needed to terminate service because my ISP raised my rates by $14 a month. I got a special bundle deal with ATT via DirecTV. When I called Vonage they said I would not get any of the $150 I expected to have refunded due to not using the rest of the time that I had paid for. The "account manager" was unyielding and could care less that I am a senior citizen, Vonage needs that money and it was the terms of the agreement. I hope they go under and soon.

If you paid for a year of service, your under contract. Just like with a cell phone provider. If you cancel early, you will be forced to pay early termination fees. If you lease a car, you signed a contract. If you can't pay for it, the car goes back and you don't get any of your money back that you invested into it.

I really don't understand people who think they are entitled to money back when they sign contracts. That is why there are terms of service when you sign for anything. People are just too lazy to read through them. There is no theft, no robbery being performed. It is clearly written in the contract you signed that under a 1 years contract, you will not get any money back if you decide to cancel before the contract is up.

Maybe if you learned to read fine print you wouldn't be complaining. Maybe I should complain that I am a single white male, former combat veteran who makes a good salary and I have have to pay tax dollars towards your social security that wont be there for me when I am 65. Not only do I have to pay you, I have to pay for the poor, I have to pay for the foreigners, and I have to pay into every program that does not provide any benefit to me or my future.

With that said, I didn't authorize Uncle Sam to take one penny of my hard earned money. But why do I, because I am under contract as a US citizen to let these leaches steal money from me every paycheck. I pay more is taxes per paycheck then some people make in a month.

How is all this relevant? Well because as an American citizen, we are obligated to pay taxes just as your obligated to fulfill a contract that you signed with said company. When I decided to move out of my apartment before my lease was up, I had to pay 1400 dollars a month rent each month even though I didn't live there and because it was written in my lease, I was responsible. When I switched cell carriers, I broke contract and either had to pay 175 dollars early term fee or continue to pay monthly until contract expired. Even though I could afford it, I was not happy about it but I paid because it was within the agreement that I physically signed.

For anyone who thinks Vonage is committing some act of fraud here, move the hell out of this country. This is life and how it is. It ****. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer and there is nothing any of us can do about it. This is just the way any business operates is today's world.

I am sorry you think I am cold. I actually feel for you and understand your situation. It is just that I am so tired of hearing how each group should be treated special. So your a senior citizen, and someone else is handicapped, and someone else is a minority, and someone else wants to be a charity case. When does it end? When does the single white male get any special treatment for all the contributions they have made?

Hope you like direct TV, because their TOS are:

SYSTEM LEASE: Purchase of 18 consecutive months (24 months for advanced receivers) of any DIRECTV base programming package ($29.99/mo. or above) or qualifying international services bundle required. FAILURE TO ACTIVATE ALL DIRECTV SYSTEM EQUIPMENT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE EQUIPMENT LEASE ADDENDUM MAY RESULT IN A CHARGE OF $150 PER RECEIVER NOT ACTIVATED. IF YOU FAIL TO MAINTAIN YOUR PROGRAMMING, DIRECTV MAY CHARGE A PRORATED FEE OF UP TO $480.

The $480 is if you cancel all, otherwise what you cancel for the full term.

And of course you bought a bundle from AT&T, so I assume you are under a minumum contract for phone and internet too. Not to say it is a bad deal, just that everybody does it and virtually nobody backs down on ther TOS. Try cancelling a cell phone beore your contract is due Sad

Wow, a lot of unnecessary flaming, flame-baiting and bickering here.

Sad

If you honestly believe that you have been done wrong per your contract, you need to either contact a lawyer or the government agency which regulates telephone companies. You might also want to consider contacting a local consumer advocate of some sort (most newspapers and television stations have one) who may be able to act on your behalf to help resolve the issue.

And just an FYI for anyone who reads this post and thinks I am the bad guy. The creator of this post(dedethom) did get their due credit thanks to me. If I feel someone is mistreated, I will step in and see that any wrong doing is corrected. dedethom can vouch for this.

However, I will not go out of my way to go against company policy to get money back for someone who obviously broke a contract. I am here to help those that need it and the hundreds of people that got help directly from me, know this. While I have nothing to do with customer service or billing, I am in a position to make sure the correct people take action. If there is a technical issue that I believe is the fault of Vonage, I am the first person to directly reach out to each individual and get it resolved.

So while ATTUser thinks they were treated unfairly, no one in Vonage will credit back money on a prepaid annual plan because it is written in the contract. This goes for the CEO all the way down to the lowest level customer care agent. If there were something I could do, I would but nothing can be done under these terms.

Please.... I really have been reimbursed for the full amount this morning and, thanks to the VonTechMgr. The only problem is that everything had been fixed with private messages between me and VonTechMgr.

The really did offer me a full refund since I cancelled in the first month, the problem is that they never had been able to trace the fact that I returned the modem.

So, for all of you who tried to help, thanks again.

Very Happy
