OK. Does this make sense?
Have Verizon phone service, w/ Verzion DSL on phone line. Verizon said that "Go down to Basic Local Flat Rate, and add Call Forwarding to the line, you can forward that original home number to your VoiceWing phone number if you wish."
1) Will this work? 2) Will Vonage Caller ID still work? |

sure you can forward to a Vonage number...is that what you're asking? as far as caller id, I don't think so. I know when I forwarded from Packet8 to Vonage, caller id information was not passed along. I'm sure there are some others here with some firsthand (pots to Voip forwarding) experience. |

hey reebok how does Vonage compare with packet8? I am with Vonage but was also looking at packet8 before I signed up. I am very happy with Vonage, all my issues are due to ISP and Hardware. |

P8 was so-so for me. If I was paying for my service, I would still have verizon pots. P8 was a tad cheaper (less than $2) than verizon, and a lot cheaper than Vonage unlimited. negatives I had with them: very loud volume, no name on caller id, various dialing problems (lots of redial tones). Things I like about Vonage: cid with name, lower volume, better web interface and a lot less dialing problems. |

Be aware.. if you forward to a long distance number.. you will incurre long distance charges for every minute you talk on that forwarded phone! |

I am dealing with the same thing. I have Qwest and they offer stand-alone DSL without phone service for $5 extra a month over my current DSL charges. I want to keep my number so I just ordered a 'second line' for stand-alone DSL. Once that's active, I will disconnect the DSL on my primary line and port my number to Vonage. Whew, I figure it will take a couple of weeks and hope it's worth it!! |

I have Verizon and have been waiting for a number transfer. Therefore, I have at temporary number for Vonage. Sometimes, I forward calls from my Verizon line to my Vonage line. The Verizon line will ring once, and then it forwards and the Vonage line rings. The Caller ID information IS passed along as well with no problem. Remember there are 2 different systems for Verizon, former Bell Atlantic and former GTE. Mine is former Bell Atlantic and I am in the Pittsburgh area. Not sure if the caller ID information will be passed along with former GTE as well or not. |
