Hello,
I've had my Vonage for about 2 years using the same hardware.
I am in Okinawa, Japan and use the following:
ISP: Mediatti Broadband (Cable)
Modem: Scientific Atlanta DPC2100
Vonage Router: Motorola VT2142
The Cable Modem is connected to the Vonage Router and the PC is connected to the Vonage Router
Cable Modem > Vonage Router > PC
We had a power outtage today. When it came back on the Vonage was not working. I've completely reset everything, over and over, and I cannot get the Vonage to work. My internet works though when I connect the PC straight to the Modem. So connectivity is there. But when I connect the Vonage, the power indicator blinks green... then a minute later begins to blink red rapidly and stays like that.
I don't know what to do. Please help.
When I do decide to restart everything, I do the following:
- Shut Down PC
- Unplug Vonage Router
- Unplug Cable Modem
Wait 10 minutes
- Plug in Cable Modem, wait for full start up.
- Plug in Vonage... I get the red lights. |

OK, After searching through the forums I tried several thing.
I disconnected the cable modem and had my vonage device connected to my PC.
Vonage > PC
Typed 192.168.15.1 in my browser for the device config page and restored to default settings. Turned off the device. Turned off the cable modem. Turned off the PC. Then I restarted the modem... then the vonage device and power light kept blinking green every 3-4 seconds while the internet light also blinked. It just kept doing that forever.
So I went back to the device config, restored defaults, logged out, powered off the device, powered it back on, went back into config and changed settings to static as so:
IP: 192.168.15.3
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.15..1
DSN1: 192.168.15.1
Saved, logged out, turned off everything, restarted everything and the vonage device did the same thing again... blining green (no more red), but the power light never went solid and the phone 1 light never came on.
I give up. Please help. |

The red blinking power LED means there is a problem with the voice module. You also said you set up a static IP on the VT2142. If you did this on the WAN / Internet settings, you will never be able to connect to anything since you set up a non routable private IP address. This setting should either be DHCP so that the VT2142 can obtain an IP fro your internet service provider or set to a static public IP if that is what your provider uses. It is possible that the voice module got surged when the power went out and came back up and could be damaged.
Here is a list of what the LED's mean.
Power Single (1) Blink – Green During normal startup procedure, voice gateway powered on
Power Double (2) Blinks – Green VT2142 is obtaining an IP address
Power Triple (3) Blinks - Green VT2142 is obtaining configuration from Vonage
Power Four (4) Blinks - Green VT2142 is registering with Vonage
Power On - Green Voice Gateway powered on (plugged in), successfully registered. If a firmware upgrade was needed, it has been successfully completed.
Power
Blinking or On - RED
Problem with the voice gateway. Restart device (Login to device > Select "Tools" at top > Select "Restart on left" > Click "Restart") View Emulator
Power, Phone 1-2 Blinking rapidly in unison Downloading a firmware upgrade. Do NOT unplug or disconnect while downloading firmware.
Power
Phone 1-2 Solid Phone for that line is on hook, registered with Vonage and ready for use
Phone 1-2 3 Blinks - Red
(blink, blink, blink, pause, repeat) A live PSTN phone line is plugged into one of the phone ports. Note: The line must be removed and the device rebooted for the port to operate.
Phone 1-2 Blinking – Green Phone for that line is ringing or off hook
Phone 1-2 Blinking – Orange Voicemail waiting on that line
Phone 1-2 Off Phone line is not registered for service. You cannot use it for calls.
Internet On – Green Internet connection speed 100Base-T
Internet On – Yellow Internet connection speed 10Base-T
Internet Blinking Activity on the Internet connection
Ethernet On – Green Ethernet connection speed 100Base-T

Please remember that my RED light is no longer coming on.
I will go back into device config... restore to default... make sure DHCP is on and restart device.
I will go back to device config, go to tools and restart.
Restart all devices. See what happens.
Thanks. |

After you have power cycled the network, log into the VDV21, click on Status(located top right corner of screen). Take a look at the IP information listed under Internet Connection Status. If you do not have an IP listed, then the Internet Service Provider is not giving you one. If you do have an IP, can your computer browse the internet? |

I did a "restore to default settings" ... then went back in and hit "restart". Power cycled, and the red light came back on.
But under status, my WAN was connected and it did show an IP. I did check to see if I could browse the web. I will try again.
Right now I am only able to browse the web and post here when I eliminate the vonage device from my network. |

Can you copy and paste your IP information from the VT2142 status window and then provide the IP your PC gets when directly connected to the modem. I have a feeling your ISP is not issuing a true Public IP to the VT2142. It may be only getting an internal private IP from them or some sort of autoconfig IP. |

I did the restore to default > restart > power cycle...
Power light only blinked green (slow). I could not browse.
And this is what the status showed.

So in the first post, the VT2142 did not even obtain an IP from your internet service provider resulting in the slow blinking LED either 1 or 2 blinks.
In the second post where the LED blinked Red, indicating a problem with the Voice module, you did obtain a Public IP however your Line 1 status shows in use. This could mean that the device thinks the phone is off hook or there is voltage from the phone line getting back into the device. Overall this does sound like it got surged from the outage. |
