PostPosted: Sun Nov 09, 2008 6:47 pm    Post subject: Seeking Voicemail Only Service from Vonage Reply with quote Back to top

Hello,

I have been a Vonage subscriber for at least 4 years, maybe longer - however I find that I need my home telephone less and less even at the low rate. I am interested in a voicemail only with my current number. I do not need any line, no ability to make or recieve calls... only my existing number and a voicemail box that I can access online or via my cell phone.

Please advice if Vonage offers this service as I would rather do business with them than any other telco provider.

Thanks!

JoN

I encourage you to call customer service to find this out. as far as i know, unless they are adding new products/services, I have not heard of this option.

Vonage customer service will go lower than $15/mo if you ask. You just have to know how to ask *grin*

As an update, I just spoke with a Vonage account representative Friday morning, for long-term customers with excellent credit, they can offer you a 100-minute account for $9.99/mo w/ 1 month of free service. You could set your account status to "Do Not Disturb" and have all calls roll over to voicemail.

Vonage will go even lower than $9.99 per month. They have a $4.99 per month plan that doesn't include any minutes. All outgoing calls are billed at 3.9 cents per minute. The incoming and toll free and calls to other Vonage numbers are still free. Sounds like that is your ticket! What you need to do is get transferred to the retention department by telling a rep that you want to cancel. They are the only ones that can issue a promotional rate. Think of some excuse why you want to cancel, but your real reason sounds like it should do(you don't really use the service much). They will probably throw the 9.99 plan at you first but just be persistent that you need something cheaper. I'm sure you won't have any problems since you've been a customer for 4 years.

I had unlimited service for 14.99 a month for a year and I just renewed that rate for another year. They are more than willing to keep a current customer at almost any cost. I guess that is a big consumer advantage when dealing with a company whose biggest problem is customer churn! Very Happy

Machmike: Nothing personal but you are a shining example of the problems in customer service today. Not only with Vonage but most other companies as well. Employees that don't even understand or use the products they are selling/supporting. Therefore, they are unable to provide accurate information to customers. People come to this forum for good information. If they want bad information or to get jerked around on the phone for an hour, they can just call directly to Vonage. Very Happy

I just got a chance to call them, they said there was a plan with no minutes for 4.99 just as tglea stated, however i needed to call back during normal business hours m-f and speak to an account manager to get that plan. Since I don't need any outgoing or incoming calls, only voicemail, i guess i would just ditch the equipment so there are no mistaken per minute charges and check voicemail online...

Whatever makes you comfortable. However, you could still receive incoming calls and call your voicemail for free. Not to mention toll free numbers are free as well. That could be useful if you are going to use just a cell phone. I would prefer to sit on hold for free rather than using up cell minutes. My two cents!
