You don't have to ditch it per-se, you coud just unplug it.
Personally, I don't even check my voice mail over the phone anymore, it's too cumbersome. I have Vonage e-mail them to me, much eaier to sort out who called.

I do this, too. But after reading or listening to your emailed voice mail, how do you delete them from your voice mail inbox?

You can log into your Vonage web account and delete them there. I don't bother to do this at all, Vonage automatically deletes them after 60 days.
