receiving landline call without landline service

Voip (receiving landline call with voip)?
My question is if I get a Vonage service and cancel my landline phone, will I be able to receive calls from landline phones with a Vonage Voip service? thanks

Yes. Vonage is not just a PC to PC type Voip service. It acts as a normal phone service provider. While Vonage handles the internet piece of the routing, they have numerous inbound and outbound partner carriers that interconnect them from the internet to the traditional phone networks. Any calls placed to you would be the same as it is now and any call you place would be the same. If you port your current number to Vonage, it would be transparent to your callers that you switched to another provider.

If you don't want to keep your number, Vonage can issue you one from your local calling area if your area is serviced by Vonage. Most markets are but there are a few where Vonage does not have local numbers.

If you plan on porting your current number, do not cancel it as it has to remain active until the port completes. Also Vonage requires that you have Broadband internet connection. If you have DSL on the line you want to cancel, you will need to get cable internet or dry loop DSL. If you were to cancel that line that had DSL on it, you would have no internet and no Vonage.
