Here is the skinny..I have the Linksys 3Port wired router and it's basically dying. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It has been resetting itself more and more and basically I think it's down for the count.
What is a good replacement for this router? Should I just buy the Vportal and hook that up to a router? I use all the port on my current router so I am looking for a good replacement and from what I am reading Vonage doesn't have any good routers..Can somebody reccomend a good solution..The Linksys that I had was doing a good job for about 3.5 years...

I would recommend the V-Portal, or a PAP2 or any other Vonage device that you just use for Voip. The main point being here to just use the Vonage device for the phone and not for routing.

Then get a good router to put in front of it with good QoS settings to make sure the Vonage device gets highest priority.

I personally like the Linksys WRT54GL with Tomato loaded as aftermarket firmware.

What is generally said here is that the Vonage devices are good phone devices, but poor routers.

Okay...I will be sure to do that...I picked up the WRT54GL for $49.99 at buy.com...Any reccomendations of where I can pick up the Linksys PAP2...I see it's on Amazon.com but it's going for $149.99???..and Vonage only has some re-certified motorolla and the V-Portal..Anybody know where I can pick up a NEW PAP2..I heard about the issue with getting a used one...

I always forget that the PAP2 isn't easy to find anymore, you probably need to just get a V-Portal.

Heed Marc's warning though and get a new device regardless of what you get. Buying something used from somewhere like eBay is asking for problems. The issue is that the devices are already registered with Vonage so when you go to activate it you can't because its already associated with a customer (even if the customer is a prior customer)

If the device is re-certified and offered by the manufacturer or Vonage, it should be fine. Re-certified devices mean that a) either the device was previously defective but repaired, or previously opened and returned unused, and b) the manufacturer has tested it again and certified that it is just as good as a new unit.

I wouldn't trust one off of eBay or Craigslist, though.

Sounds good...I will pick up the Vonage V-Portal as I can't find a new Linksys PAP2. I started doing my research on installing Tomato on the WRT54GL router, can someone direct me to the optimal settings that you should have for Vonage??

I found a new Linksys PAP2 (for Vonage) and it's going for the same price as the V-Portal...Which one do you guys recommend I get? Or it doesn't really matter...
