You obviously identified the issue to be with the Encore switch but I do not think this is an MTU issue.
My recommendation would be to do the following only if you are really interested in finding root cause.
1) Get a hub and connect it between the router and switch.
2) Connect a laptop or PC to the hub and make sure you install ethereal or wireshark on this PC.
3) Set ethereal / wireshark to sniff packets on the correct interface and set your display filter for https or use a filter of ip.addr==x.x.x.x(the X represents the IP of the PC logging into the web account).
4) From another PC connected behind the switch, attempt the login to your
Vonage
web account.
4) Capture your packets in ethereal / wireshark and save the file.
Now do the same thing of trying to log into your web account using a PC running ethereal / wireshark directly connected to the router. Capture your https data and save the file.
Lastly, do a comparison of the two files and see if you can locate a point of failure.

Howyadoin,
Thanks, I'll try Wireshark and let you know what I find. In the meantime, I've hot-wired the connection directly to the router and haven't seen any problems yet.
