Is anyone familiar with the setup for these -- since I got the VT2442, I can't get the wireless connection working.
Appreciate any help...thanks kindly. |

Zaibotsu,
What is the make and model of the router you are asking the question about? There are hundreds of routers on the market and all are different. Some do not even have an actual firewall that can be disabled. No one will be able to answer you unless we know which piece of hardware you are referring to. |

Slyster --
Thanks so much for the info...I'll play around with it later and post my findings.
I have a cable modem, motorola sb1500 which connects to the Vonage vt2442 and like I say one of the ethernet ports to the wap54g.
Worked fine with my old linksys router.
I'll get back....thanks again. |

Ok -- I have a connection but it's unsecured....I can connect to web sites on the laptop.
I can't however go to the linksys setup http://192.168.1.245 -- I've tried a dozen times.
I did the power up.....modem, Vonage, wap54g and now the connection is fine.
I know I have to get to that address to set up the secured connection but no luck.
any ideas on what next?
thanks ! |

bellbuster,
Can you confirm the IP you have on your laptop as well as the IP of the default GW and let us know what it is? |

Well like I say I have an unsecured connection and it's working fine that says "linksys" as the ssid.
On the laptop, it says...
ip address -- 192.168.15.4 default gateway -- 192.168.15.1
On the main PC, I'm not sure how i get that info but I went to the Vonage router page (192.168.15.1) and it says under the wan configuration stuff?....
dhcp settings
ip -- 71.65.44.18 gateway -- 71.65.44.1
it also says on that page...
nat and firewall boxes are checked and there is an overide mac box that is unchecked.
am I looking in the right place? does that help?
THANKS. |

Well you said you were unable to reach the WAP interface at IP http://192.168.1.245 and that is why I asked you what the IP and default gw on your laptop is. So by you telling us that your IP is 192.168.15.4 and your default GW is 192.168.15.1, this means you have the IP from the VT2442.
While you have an IP address of 192.168.15.4, it will not be possible for you to access an IP on another network such as 192.168.1.245.
The only way you will be able to access the WAP at 192.168.1.245 is if your wireless card has an IP of 192.168.1.x and a subnet of 255.255.255.0.
You should be able to configure this statically on your wireless card and then log into the WAP and configure your wireless security.
You may also do this in conjunction with the setup CD which will help you configure the WAP.
What I also do with access points is configure the LAN address to be on the same network as the router so it can be accessed in the future. LAN IP of WAP should be configured to 192.168.15.x once your inside. |
